In Namibia, working young people can be taken to court for not paying their elderly parents maintenance. The legal obligation for children to support their parents in need is stipulated in the Maintenance Act 9 of 2003. Methinks this law is progressive.

Bongi Mhlongo, 36, was allegedly beaten to death by her boyfriend in Shawela, Giyani, Limpopo, on 17 August 2025. She had been out with friends at a local tavern when her boyfriend, Goodenough Nkuna, approached her and threatened to kill her. After making these threats, he left the venue but waited for Bongi to return home. When Bongi arrived, he allegedly beat her to death with a spade outside her house. The following morning, her family discovered Bongi’s lifeless body. The boyfriend fled the scene but was later arrested and is now awaiting trial. Bongi leaves behind her two daughters. ZANU PF members from Mashonaland West lost their lives in a tragic road accident. The double cab they were travelling in collided head-on with a ZUPCO bus while crossing an unnamed bridge on their way to the Munhumutapa Birthday celebrations in Zvishavane. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, and police are expected to release more details soon.

The ZRP confirms the death of seven family members in a fatal road accident that occurred today at the 49 km peg on the Harare-Nyamapanda Road. Nine people were injured. The kombi was carrying 16 family members, a tombstone and bricks when the driver tried to overtake another motor vehicle and lost control of the kombi. The kombi then overturned, killing five people on the spot while two others died upon admission at local hospital. More details to follow.
