@notayesmansecon A general question for later on the back of the news that the Dutch government are subsidising the filling of their gas storage. If the sale price of gas in the UK & Europe is lower next winter than the current filling cost price who bears the loss.

@notayesmansecon What economic interventions would you make to address the youth unemployment crisis in the UK.

@edintravel Work on the pavement on Baxter's Place started this morning which, sort of, explains why the cycle lane has been blocked off all week.

@edintravel Thanks, pitty Scottish Water couldn't just wait to block the cycle lane until they actually turn up to do some work. No sign of anything at the moment.

@edinhelp Is it possible for a roads inspector to identify which utility is responsible for the noisy manhole cover in the road on Union Place outside Giuliano's and arrange for it to be repaired?

@notayesmansecon A question for later. I can't recall how many times Trump has said that a deal is close, but oil prices still fall every time. Why's that?

@notayesmansecon The increase in youth unemployment is concerning too, particularly at a time when the cost of employing entry level workers is being forced up.

@notayesmansecon I spoke to an Finance manager who said that she though that politicians opinion on what a young worker should be paid is having trouble against the reality of the value employers believe the new employee adds to the enterprise.

The particularly troubling number for the UK this morning was this. It is subject to revision but was grim. "Payrolled employment decreased by 100,000 employees (0.3%) in April 2026, compared with March 2026;"

@aeberman12 Sunday, there's no oil coming through the strait. Monday, Trump says he's decided to hold off bombing Iran. Tuesday, there's still no oil coming through the strait but the oil price has fallen?

@notayesmansecon A question for Friday. If Trump goes America first later in the year and restricts US LNG exports to keep prices down there, what happens in the EU & UK?

UK Wind Power has more than halved to 2.8GW this morning. With 3.5GW of Solar we are burning 12.5GW of Gas as well as importing 6.8GW. Hydro is 0.8GW. Nuclear is 4GW and the awful Biomass 2.7GW The price of wholesale electricity over the past 24 hours was £111 per MWh.

@notayesmansecon Perhaps a question for later, reports of retail sales being lower and government borrowing being higher than expected, why are analysts so regularly wrong?

@notayesmansecon I'd be interested to hear your take on Friday of the costs and benefits to households as stated in this BBC article.

@notayesmansecon There's scepticism about some of the tax rises before the next election but the bond market doesn't seem bothered am I missing something and what's your opinion?

@notayesmansecon Ecotricity boss Vince Dale Vince says "the problem we have is that we allow gas to set the price of our electricity" OFGEM say "This marks the beginning of a trend in which non-energy costs emerge as the primary driver of household energy bills, rather than the wholesale market"
