@FutureTrunks382 This is also why you have a split fan base of final fantasy 7 & the franchise as a whole. It’s crazy how much more cinematic focused the games became while also becaming less serious. I’m not sure who these games are supposed to appeal to anymore & I think FF16 is a good example.

I think people that weren’t old enough to experience FFVII when it came out will never understand. You cannot put into worths what that game did for the industry & JRPG genre from that point on. FFVII was the STANDARD. #FinalFantasyVII

FFVII es el juego más sobrevalorado de la historia, no porque sea un mal juego (original y remake me parecen normalitos) sino porque siempre se habla de él como uno de los RPGs más importantes de la historia cuando no inventó NADA y si no existiera el género seguiría igual.

@12are12 @MagumoKawasaki I mean… I need to hold your hand while I say this, but being cinematic been the norm since the OG 7, when they made one of the first 3D JRPG’s. So saying that the new games are more “cinematic” is ???
If anything, everything from XIII-2 onwards started to focus more on gameplay

@MagumoKawasaki @ptprotagonist Pains me to say but there’s a huge disconnect in the fan base & a lot has to do with the direction SE chose to take the games in with more cinematic experiences over gameplay focus & it shows as they’re struggling to recover.

@MagumoKawasaki @ptprotagonist Just because there’s a plot doesn’t mean it’s a good one.The v/a & art direction as a whole are awful, along with the cringe fist bump with Astos. FF1 had minimal dialogue and delivers an amazing experience, similar experience that souls games seem to deliver & come close in tone

@b00ch @BwoompPanda @lofi_lover0930 Even if you're not being disingenuous, the tone of older FF games have been more serious. just because Berserk has Puck as comedic relief doesn't make the overall tone goofy, it's a balance which is what SE seems to have lost. Souls games have silly things but are much darker.

@BwoompPanda @b00ch @lofi_lover0930 I'd like to add that DeS brought me back to that feeling of FF1 where you have those D&D enemies, it was a darker fantasy RPG game with spells, melee & minimal dialogue that left much to the imagination. I miss FF having a more serious OVERALL tone.

@BwoompPanda @b00ch @lofi_lover0930 Demons' Souls didn't flirt with it, it was niche, it was word of mouth alone that got it ported to the west because Sony hated it & considered it a failure. ER only succeeded because FS of pushed their unique combat approach & style, evolved it to what it is now & grew.

@TheDavidVinc This game is really good and gets judged harshly. It was more challenging that the og but added more RPG elements which make it more immersive for myself. it was very punishing when you lost your last life and all your XP towards next level.

@Grrraowl @bluthundyr @NWSerpent The games are doing poor and people are blaming people like Seb for pointing out why fans of the original franchise are leaving. I say this a lot but FF1 - 7 were much darker games, they had silly moments but so do games like DarkSouls and Elden Ring which are much darker games.

@NatalieMc510 @EightOEighter @MidnightKolrath FF1 is more dark souls than FF, to be fair this game tries to go for DS but fails and while you can compare combat the tone and dialogue are probably the worst in FF history and that's saying something. Should have kept the tone of OG FF1 with minimal dialogue, combat was ok.

@MidnightKolrath I think 16 was refreshing, mostly because the tone wasn't so childish and wasn't cringe inducing. Gameplay was better than most previous FF even if people are upset it plays like DmC. FF13 was the pre-FF7R which was ok, mostly cringe. SoP..cringe with ok gameplay (beat hard mode)

@KristoffMikael @R4zORsh4rpo as an old FF player I also find his criticisms to be on point. Play FF1, the game that saved the company, and play modern FF games and there's just so much that drags the experience down and saying it's optional doesn't exactly help. The tone comparison of FF1 is closer to souls.

@gielmont I mean, GIT GUD is kinda what souls are about. This goes back to a quote from Miyazaki and his deliberate designs. It's not meant to be impossible but it isn't meant to be easy either.

i hate the "git gud" jokes because they keep pushing the idea that a great souls game is defined by difficulty and cool bosses, when in reality it's the level design and creative encounters throughout the journey that make them special

To me almost every new soulslike falls flat, because it feels like the devs are focusing on the wrong things and that is extremely elaborate, ultra difficulty boss fights. Sure DS1 was sorta difficult, but to me it was more about the exploration. That's where it absolutely shone

It's a fucking platformer (parent genre) that falls into Metroidvania with it's design. Your feelings don't change this.

I swear the aesthetic of this game makes people put blinders onto the actual gameplay that is within the game. (I mostly dont feel this way about the DLC)
