Endgame is a mistake. If you have no endgame the game is the game. If you have endgame the game is something you need to rush through and get out of the way to get to the actual game.

I feel like this is the biggest complaint with most Looter Shooters/ ARPGs. Lack of endgame. Anthem, Outriders, launch D4, etc. Yet Warframe is now the longest standing game in the genre and it legitimately lacks endgame. What’s their secret?

@QuiteShallow Engame is usually just a certain level that equips you to be opened up to the rest of the game. Having nothing to work for is how you get Arc Raiders where it feels purposeless

@15_KC_87 It's very simple: design missions by giving the player a goal, then letting you achieve that goal in any way you please, be it a frontal violent shootout or a sneaky find-the-backdoor approach.
You know, like Deus Ex or Dishonored. RDR2 certainly has enough systems to support it.

I actually like this level of detail in environmental interaction.
The problem with Rockstar games is that on one hand they do this, but whenever you enter a story mission all experimentation gets thrown out of the window and you're forced to follow the script or fail.

@GamewithDave I don't know if this is because we get older or the games just aren't as good. I think the gaming industry has taken a massive step backward and done away with a lot of the qualities games had in the early 2000s.

Borderlands was a disaster for gaming and I'm tired of pretending it wasn't.
A crocodile should die in a few sword slashes or a single pistol shot to the head. Period. Giving everything spongy health bars is painfully unfun.
