Although Tails are a classic and practical rejection signal, they are not a perfect mechanical indicator and have several key limitations (based on mainstream trading literature and real‑world feedback):
• Highly context‑dependent and subjective: How long a tail is (2 or 3 TPOs?) is defined differently by different traders; extreme volatility, news‑driven markets, or strong trend days can severely distort the profile structure, causing tail signals to become distorted or unreliable.
• No‑tail days (poor high / poor low) can actually signal strong trends and should not be mechanically interpreted as reversals.
• Ex‑post nature and poor real‑time usability: The TPO distribution only forms fully after the session ends, so it is hard to confirm tail signals in real time (except for the last‑time‑frame spike). Early tails may also be “erased” or filled in by later sessions.
• High risk of false signals: Tails can be easily broken by strong trends, especially under initiative drive; if you rely only on TPO and ignore actual volume, you may overlook real institutional participation and end up seeing “strong structure with weak real‑world support.”
• Ignores volume and order flow: TPO records only “time spent,” not “volume intensity,” so reliability drops sharply in low‑liquidity or thin‑order‑book instruments.
• Steep learning curve + platform differences: Different platforms calculate TPO slightly differently; beginners often overinterpret tails and ignore the broader auction context. If you rely solely on Tails without seeing the bigger picture, you risk “missing the forest for the trees.”
In short, Tails are a structural reference, not an independent predictive tool. They are best used to provide a probabilistic framework, but win rate depends heavily on market regime and multi‑layered confluence. Using them in isolation often leads to overtrading or missing major trends.

Market Profile Tails form only at the extremes on a profile. Provide the clearest example of market rejection. Looking for a row of single prints at the pivots. Good confirmation of finished business, expect the pivot to hold with strength. ...example shown below ↓
