When the Obama Presidential Center Museum opens June 19, you can see the American flag carried by SEAL Team Six of the Navy SEALs and Army pilots during Operation Neptune’s Spear, the mission that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 1, 2011.

The Obama Foundation just announced the final group of major artist commissions for the Obama Presidential Center in advance of the June 19 opening in Chicago: Njideka Akunyili Crosby, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Jeffrey Gibson, Rashid Johnson, Hugo McCloud, Martin Puryear, Lorna Simpson, and Norman Teague are creating major site-specific works for the campus, joining a growing roster of artists whose work is central to the Center’s vision of civic engagement. Spanning the full breadth of the campus, the new commissions place art within spaces where people gather, commune, and connect, embedding a wide range of cultural traditions and materials into the fabric of everyday life at the Center. The artists bring together Indigenous drum-making, Afro-Asian Cuban symbolism, conceptual photography, industrial materials, historic ephemera, and locally rooted inclusive design, united by a shared investment in place, memory, and community.

President Obama wants you to meet Obama Europe Leader Adélaïde Charlier, who raised awareness for climate change by leading an all-woman sailing crew across the Atlantic Ocean for one month this last November. Adélaïde said on Instagram that she left COP 30 with warm feelings for Belém, but while there, she posted about the challenges of centering research-backed science at the conference. Yet her work continues. This inspiring trip is being turned into a documentary slated for release later in 2026.

Every year, 12 million girls marry before the age of 18. This is one reason why the Girls Opportunity Alliance has supported 265 grassroots projects in 50 countries, reaching more than 160,000 girls who deserve the chance to live fully. When girls are empowered to stay in school, reach their potential, and become leaders, their communities grow stronger alongside them. We have been working alongside the Clooney Foundation for Justice, @GirlsNotBrides_, @GirlsFirstFund, and the @GatesFoundation to build the kind of ecosystem that creates real, lasting change. Meet Sonia Garcia, 2025-2026 University of Chicago Obama Scholar, who President Obama wants you to know more about! She is working to make sure more families can access the food and benefits they need through Greater Chicago Food Depository.

More than 200 volunteers came together Saturday in Jackson Park to care for the place we call home. We covered seven acres, picked up 1100 gallons of trash, and planted more than 300 seedlings across Jackson Park and the Urban Growers Collective community garden. Thank you to everyone who gave their time, including neighbors, Obama Leadership Network participants, Obama Youth Job Corps interns, community partners, development partners, and staff. We look forward to welcoming you to Jackson Park and the Obama Presidential Center campus this June and building the future of this place together!
