Every year 10,000 American graduates of medical school are not matched with a residency. Meanwhile, foreign grads take up more and more residency spots. In 2025, some 6,653 residencies were taken up by non-U.S. citizens, this is 2,300 from 2021. American students should take precedence over foreign trained students.
