Bo and Jantje spoke about the cancelation of 1899 in an interview with O Globo: “The cancellation of ‘1899’ has changed the way we think about our projects. Things have changed a lot in the industry and in society, especially in the way people produce and consume content.”

For reference: 1899 worked with the Alice in Wonderland theme from the beginning featuring it also in the intro song. In Stranger Things, they included a clear reference to Alice in Wonderland with Holly and Henry.

Regarding what happened with SIKTC: “SIKTC was previously set up at the streamer as a series. Netflix passed on it at the end of 2024 after opting not to move forward following extensive development with both Mike Flanagan, as well as Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese.”

@SkyeFirehart Netflix owns the rights. I’m pretty sure they can’t do anything that will make them profit off it without the permission to do so. Not sure how the regulations are exactly though.

@1899Netflix The fact that they haven't spoke about.. the story makes it even more sad and frustrating. I do understand that they had a vision about the show, but at least.. Do tell the story. Even if it is a youtube video explaining the plot. And be more clear about if there is hope or not.

@mikekaraoke23 Numbers are not the same. It’s the completion rate that matters. When many start it and not finish it, that’s “bad”. Whether we like this strategy or not. I do have to admit that 1899 had a rough start though.

@1899Netflix Still very annoyed of it being cancelled, I mean-Netflix announced a few days after release that 1899 was in 58 countries the most watched product of all the offerings available on Netflix at that time. I mean 3 Body Problem did pretty much the same + got S2/3 renewed quickly🤷‍♂️

Four years ago. 🥲 Do we ever fully recover from this loss? I don’t think so.

@1899Netflix They do prefer doramas. After great "dark", "1899" could be a hit too, but the "executive experts" chose kpop soap operas over it. Probably the show demanded lots of thinking and concentration they don't have anymore...
