@residentadviser Can't you be concerned by more than one thing? I think it is reasonable to be vigilant about all religious fundamentalism. I say this as someone who has been assaulted for insulting Islam, so it isn't about me defending that religion.

Yup. Also, I have my issues with the Christian Right in US and the far-right cooption of Christianity. Wouldn’t exactly be a fan of Catholic Integralism. But the idea that Christian Nationalism is the illiberal form of religion we should be concerned about is, well, interesting.
Fergus Butler-Gallie@_F_B_G_

I’m not a Christian Nationalist- as past writings will tell- but the irony of people like “Prof” Roberts, who have been putting out hardcore anti religion bigotry for decades, now clutching pearls about something being anti ‘all other religions and worldviews’ is hilarious.

The problem with secular liberals is they see all religious displays as interchangeable. They don’t have the right lens, the spiritual rooting, the historical knowledge, or even the cultural familiarity with other religious traditions to perceive nuances in sentiment & symbolism.
Paul Nowak@nowak_paul

I’m not religious but I have friends, colleagues and neighbours of all faiths and none. To call a public display of Muslim prayer an act of ‘domination and division’ is dog whistle politics. Pure and simple. independent.co.uk/bulletin/news/…

My q for those who support decriminalising late term abortion: If you support decriminalising the homicide of a full term baby in the womb when the perpetrator is in a 'desperate state', then why not minutes later when the baby is born? Why not 6 months later - or 3 years later?

@ItsTaz1989 Christians also use prayer as domination. I don't like hearing Christian preachers yelling nonsense in the street but I put up with it. Are you saying I should stop them?

Muslims have often used prayer throughout history as a display of conquest & domination. Mehmed II prayed at the Hagia Sophia for the same reason, & it’s a practice that has reverberated through Islamic imperial history.

I can't help thinking that we are at a turning point. We either say no to this evil and turn back to the firm footing of our Christian ethical framework, or we unleash a living hell.

Liberal modernity: it's so good, the leading legislative priority of the governments presiding over it is to make it legal to kill people, including but not limited to: babies up to a few minutes before they are born; the mentally ill; the elderly and inconvenient.

Yeah. It’s not good. Geoffrey Cox is just one of the best orators in Parliament. There’s been a decline in that quality of debate and oratory. And not just that but people seem to like or enjoy that decline. As if it doesn’t matter.
Madeline Grant@Madz_Grant

If you want to see the best and worst of the Commons, watch Catherine West's snippy response to Geoffrey Cox. Disoriented by a rare display of brilliance in the Commons, she can only call him patronising (inevitably, before reading off a sheet) and her colleagues can only jeer

@VoiceofIgnatius @bo_austin_ it's great that you're okay with it but I'm sure you understand that a person who openly denigrates people whenever they talk about a topic that doesn't interest him won't have any friends

The replacement of the European population is the worst genocide ever in human history. Act like it. Never forget it. Make the reality unavoidable. Anyone who supports a single third world immigrant being here needs to be viewed as the most beyond the pale evil maniac ever. Support for third worlders must become a socially impossible position.

@freyaindiaa Yes! It's a mistake to treat social media as simply another technological advancement (like the calculator or the motorized tractor) that we need to adapt to. Social media and smartphones have fundamentally altered human experience. This is different in kind from previous tech.

I don't think using social media is just a "bad habit" young people have. I think their entire existence has been altered by it: how they think, look, feel, conduct themselves. It's given new meaning to friendship and falling in love and to life itself, and it degrades it all.

Incredible how there was clearly an appetite for a progressive alternative to Labour but Ed Davey was too obsessed with winning over one nation tories, so we’ve completely miss the moment to come back into relevance and will be eternally doomed to 12-15%

I literally cannot begin to express how dangerous I think the Greens are. I see them as a direct threat to the foundations of a peaceful, well-ordered life in this country. Any government that depended on them would, in my view, drag Britain into deep instability and division (immiseration). The language used against them should reflect the seriousness of that threat.
