**Illegal Monday.** A massive percentage of Mexico’s population is now in the United States. In 2023 there were an estimated 10.9 million Mexican immigrants here, making up about 23 percent of all foreign-born residents. Does anyone remember what it used to be like? Walking through towns or neighborhoods and not hearing Spanish constantly. Not seeing the demographic shift in schools, hospitals, job sites, and daily life. That change did not happen by accident. It happened because policies encouraged it, borders were not enforced, and businesses benefited from the cheap labor pool. Americans did not vote for this transformation of their communities. It was done to them. The numbers are real. The effects on wages, schools, housing, and social cohesion are real. Pretending otherwise does not make it go away. Here is my personal experience. I worked as CTO in a massive medical campus and I walk about 15,000 steps a day and would start my morning by doing 5,000 steps and end the walk by going into a 7-11 and getting myself a coffee each morning. There was always construction taking place. I walked in one day and was confronted by an Indian behind the counter arguing with a Hispanic worker. The worker spoke zero English and the Indian was quite upset and demanded that he communicate in English. Obviously, I was amused but then it turned to rage as the Spanish speaker said in Spanish that a day was coming when Spanish would be required. The Indian asked me if I spoke Spanish and I said- sure.. and said Si lo entiendo .. and the Spanish speaker started yelling at me to interpret so he could get lotto tickets and I said- No if you cant speak here you don't belong here. 'Si - No hables ingles no parteneces aqui'... not sure if I spelled it right - I learned Spanish in bad neighborhoods growing up. Today ...
