So easy to stay silent and ignore the consequences of immigration policies when we think it won't impact us. Any scientist of any nationality leaving the US because of these restrictions will impact our economy and every day lives in the long run. Contact your representatives!

I read comments saying “just go back” or “just consular process” and realize these are the same kinds of people influencing government policy. To them it’s paperwork. To real families it’s years of separation, missed pregnancies, children growing up without parents, financial devastation, and marriages under extreme strain. What’s most disturbing is how casually some people dismiss human suffering while claiming to defend family values and Christianity. Compassion, mercy, and keeping families together used to matter. Posts like this make me wonder how many lives are being damaged by these policies. I genuinely hope voters remember it in the midterms and in 2028.

I’m honestly curious. If thousands of Indians are coming here to become doctors, surgeons, software engineers, data scientists, researchers, and top tech professionals, that shows they are clearly capable of great things, right? Then why don’t they take that same energy, drive, and intelligence to fix and build up their own country instead of leaving it?

I immigrated by myself at 15yo and didn’t see my family at all for 10 years , then only a few times in the next 10. During that time both my grandmas and my mother died and I wasn’t there for them..I feel like an orphan in the USA and didn’t get citizenship until 1.5 year ago …

Immigrants have contributed to the economy not just as engineers or founders but also as smart investors. To keep America great, we need immigration. I wish that instead of Republicans shutting down immigration indiscriminately and Democrats turning it on blindly, they would have agreed to a fixed annual rate and shifted the discussion to how to distribute that quota among high-skilled, low-skilled, refugee, and family immigration and how to close the abuse of those categories.

I have long written and spoken about the many ways US immigration policy harms international students and scholars. This has been true for as long as I can remember, including when I first came to the US on a single-entry student visa more than 20 years ago under a process formerly known as muslim registry program. But the current administration has gone much further, through arbitrary policy changes, travel bans, and broad visa processing pauses that leave folks unable to work, travel, or train. These policies affect a minority of scientists, and in the current state of the world they can be easy to overlook. But we should not let that happen.
