Today’s marijuana isn’t what many adults remember. Vapes, dabs, and wax can deliver very high levels of THC—sometimes 90% or more. These products can increase risks like psychosis, severe vomiting (CHS), dependence, and possible opioid misuse later in life, especially when consumed by teens and young adults. 👉 Get the facts: highriskthc.org #onechancetogrowup #getthefacts #highthc

Advocating for high quality health education and public health safeguards helps reduce these damaging effects that the research consistently shows. As parents, we want to be good guardians of the future-- and that means implementing safeguards supported by research like this.

The research, like this study and others, consistently shows that cannabis use during the teenage years (when development is still occurring!) can result in severe mental and physical health impacts down the road.

Emergency room visits for Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome surged during the pandemic and remain elevated. CHS cases represent a growing share of ER visits, and it's beyond time to stop pretending this issue isn't getting worse! Read the research here: jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

One Chance to Grow Up is disappointed by the federal decision to reclassify marijuana to a lower schedule, Schedule III, at a time when the products on the market are more potent and more harmful. This move places tax breaks for the commercial marijuana industry ahead of public health and ignores growing scientific evidence about risks to youth. Across the country, high-potency marijuana products are proliferating, even as research continues to demonstrate harm to the developing brain. Reclassifying marijuana at any potency or amount wrongly suggests that it carries a lower risk of misuse and has accepted medical value, claims the science debunks. By lowering marijuana’s federal classification, the government sends a dangerous signal to young people that today’s marijuana is safe. In reality, today’s products are riskier than ever, and the long-term consequences of broader access remain highly problematic. These industry benefits are being granted without first establishing potency caps, serving-size limits, or youth protections. We urge leaders at every level of government to take responsibility for protecting children. Federal scheduling does not eliminate the need for stronger product safeguards and safety measures. Policymakers must strengthen regulations, limit youth exposure, and fully consider the consequences of increasingly potent marijuana products. Protecting America’s kids must come first.

You need to warn your kids about cannabis psychosis right now. The REAL Story with Dr. Phil. Parents you need to sit down with your children right NOW because that high powered weed kids say is “all-natural” can hijack the brain, trigger psychosis, and turn fear into violence - deadly violence. Legal doesn’t mean safe, and ignoring that truth is costing lives.

The potential rescheduling of marijuana would be "dangerously premature, and it would also... just really advance the normalization of the use, which we feel is very dangerous for kids,” says One Chance National Policy Director Diane Carlson in @DenverChannel: denver7.com/news/local-new…

"The marijuana of the past effectively no longer exists." Today's market is dominated by ultra-potent products that pose serious risks to our youth. Rescheduling now prioritizes corporate profits over public safety. Read National Policy Director Diane Carlson's op-ed in @dcexaminer: washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-amer…

Statement from One Chance National Policy Director Diane Carlson on the Potential Federal Reclassification of Marijuana: “One Chance to Grow up opposes any federal effort to reclassify today’s marijuana to a lower schedule, such as Schedule III.. Such a move would endanger youth, misrepresent current science, and primarily serve the interests of the commercial marijuana industry without prioritizing public health. “Rescheduling would send the wrong message at the wrong time. High-potency marijuana products continue to expand across legalized markets, and evidence of their risks to the developing brain continues to grow. A blanket classification of marijuana at any potency and any amount as a Schedule III substance implies a lower potential for misuse and accepted medical uses that the science still doesn’t support, according to new research. “Our concern is simple.  As a Schedule III drug, it would wrongly signal to young people that it’s safe, even though today’s high-potency products pose far greater risks. This action is  about tax benefits for the industry.  The country is not ready to see marijuana reclassified nationally when we still haven’t grappled with and worked out the ramifications of what happens when this drug becomes more widely available and increasingly more potent. “We urge federal, state, and local leaders to consider the widespread consequences of today’s marijuana and its new and different ultra potent products regardless of federal action. We must all keep working to create a strong regulatory environment to protect America’s kids at every level of government.”
