This person brings out a real problem. Way too many sources of advice and it’s hard to evaluate the quality. I myself am just some person on Twitter, so it’s a legitimate point. For real, you gotta go where your gut tells you.

Every morning at pre-k drop off is a Question of the Day for my kid. Today’s answer was “Tio Albos” aka my bro Albert, a carpenter. Seeing his name top of mind for her was touching. She is growing up surrounded by aunts, uncles, grandparents & cousins. Family is priceless.

Today I went to speak to my old elementary school abt being a financial planner. I didn’t learn about the profession until my first finance job. I was told it wasn’t a “good fit” for ME. You know, a poor Latina from the Southside. Reminder to thank your haters for the fuel 🙏🏽

@morganranstrom TY. I hope my kid can teach me Spanish! Mine is weak. I’m really considering working remotely from Mexico City or Oaxaca for a month this summer while she gets enrolled in an immersion program. I should enroll myself too 🫣

@1GenWealth Love it. We are such a ‘convenience’ culture at the moment. Making these decisions feels counter cultural but it’s really about naming the top priorities and then building toward those. I see that in everything you do Valerie!!

I’m big on lifestyle design - which for me usually includes convenience, walkability, and no commute. But we hit a hiccup. Last year, my daughter started kindergarten. Spanish immersion is our highest priority, but we didn’t get into the Minneapolis school with bussing. Luckily we found an amazing public charter school, but it was 20 minutes away and we were outside the busing route. All good! We were still solving for our highest priority - a great Spanish Immersion education(also happened to be an IB program which, I’ve learned, is cool). But the drive added at least 60 minutes of car time everyday. Personally, I’d drop her off and then drive back to the city to my office. But a solution arose - @MplsFeeOnly and I needed a new, bigger office. Our top choice happened to be down the street from my daughters school (my son will go there too in a couple years). And now we are here. I’m down the street ( my daughter loves this. I love this). We get about 30 minutes back a day. And it’s a nicer office. Our clients will love it. You don’t get to design ‘perfect.’There are always trade offs. But with intentionality, there are also always solutions - big and small - to make your day more in service to your highest priorities. Here’s my little lady visiting after school yesterday at my temporary desk while we wait for new furniture.
