@Utd__max10 This isn't being disrespectful. Saying Ronaldo is the only issue is being disrespectful. Ronaldo has had terrible performances at every recent major international tournament. However it's not solely on Ronaldo, the rest of the team offered nothing going forward.

@Nuel006 I feel sorry for Portugal for employing a manager who failed at Belgium when they had their golden generation of players. The midfield offered nothing against Kongo. Everyone seems to be focusing only on Ronaldo the whole team played terribly.

I feel really bad for Roberto Martínez. He has a world class midfield in Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha & Neves with arguably the best left back in the world, but he can’t fully execute his tactics because he has a 41yr old Cristiano Ronaldo in the team. I just hope there won’t be outrage if he decides to drop him for the next game.

@Mikardo13 @TouchmineX I agree Martinez was a terrible appointment. He ruined Belgium's golden generation. Cr7 is definitely finished but he isn't just the issue with the Portuguese national team

🚨 Before the World Cup: - Everyone said they have the best midfield in the World - Everyone said they have the best full backs - Everyone said they have most controlled squad So why is everyone blaming Cristiano? 🤔

@markklfc Messi didn't even get a yellow card for his tackle. Silva is very lucky to only get yellow. Both should have been red cards

Gary Lineker on the reaction to Portugal’s tackles compared to Lionel Messi’s challenge: 🗣️ “What I find incredible is the level of inconsistency in how incidents are being judged depending on who is involved, rather than what actually happens on the pitch in real time during the match.” “We’ve seen very similar, and in some cases even more dangerous, tackles from Portugal players go largely unnoticed, or they get one replay and are quickly brushed aside as if nothing serious occurred.” “But the moment Lionel Messi is involved in even a minor, unintentional contact, suddenly there’s a massive debate, constant calls for red cards, and endless slow-motion replays trying to turn a normal football action into something it simply isn’t.” “That’s where the frustration comes in for a lot of people watching — the standards should not shift depending on reputation, popularity, or the emotional reaction of fans online after the game.” “If a tackle is genuinely reckless, it should be punished every single time without hesitation. But if it’s accidental, minimal contact, or just part of a natural football movement, it shouldn’t be exaggerated into a controversy.” “The reality is, a lot of the outrage we’re seeing online feels less about the actual challenge itself and more about trying to push a narrative around one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.” “And that’s unfair on football as a whole, because the sport needs consistency, clarity, and honesty in decision-making rather than selective judgment based on who people want to criticise or defend.” “At the end of the day, refereeing decisions and opinions should always be based on what actually happened in that exact moment on the pitch — not the name on the back of the shirt or the agenda being pushed after the match.”

@TouchlineX As shit as Ronaldo was and anyone who says otherwise is deluded. The whole team were awful. Portugal midfield sucked and the defence is woeful. let's remember their manager is the same guy who ruined Belgium's golden generation

@iammrblossom Ronaldo is finished I don't understand why people keep thinking he still performs like he did when he was younger. Also Portugal have good players but can't play together and let's not forget they have a piss poor manager.

Sorry, but in case you’ve forgotten, I’ll never forget. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Cristiano Ronaldo’s fans said: “You’re mocking Ronaldo for being on the bench, but let’s see what Messi does when he reaches that age.” Well, I think we now have the answer. Messi went beyond the age Ronaldo was at in Qatar, and what did he do? He scored a hat-trick in his very first game of the tournament, with three goals more beautiful than the last, and became the competition’s all-time top scorer. And yes, pay attention—not penalties, since I know that’s usually the argument. Want another one? He’s competing with your new young superstar, Kylian Mbappé, and he snatched the Golden Boot race from him by scoring a hat-trick, after already taking the trophy itself from him in 2022. Maybe stop putting him in these challenges. Because, honestly, he’ll just embarrass you again. ❤️ 🐐🇦🇷✨

@markklfc The Messi bias is ridiculous. If that was any other player it would have been a red card. Look at the fifa president's reaction to Messi. Messi is protected again.

Thierry Henry on the VAR check involving Lionel Messi: 🗣️ “I’ve seen a lot of people saying that should have been a red card, but for me, intent is very important when you analyse these situations properly.” “When you watch it again, you can clearly see that Lionel Messi is focused on the ball and trying to make a football action, not trying to hurt anyone.” “Yes, there is contact. Yes, it looks awkward. But not every collision is a red card.” “That’s exactly why VAR exists — to slow everything down and determine whether there was any malicious intent or serious foul play.” “The officials looked at it carefully and in the end didn't even believe it was worth a yellow card.” “People are reacting because it’s Messi. If it was another player, I don't think there would be nearly as much controversy.” “For me, it was accidental, unfortunate, and nothing more than that.” “Football is a contact sport, and sometimes incidents look far worse in real time than they actually are.”

@GreatmenArs Arsenal players not being able to hold the ball or make a pass is why they lost. Also the ref I thought he had a horrible game. A foul to PSG every time Arsenal won a 50/50

@GreatmenArs He was piss poor. Forget the Madueke or Saka handball situation. Every time Arsenal won the ball back he blew for a foul on PSG. He constantly stopped the flow of the game and ruined any chance of a counter for Arsenal.

Some of these are not a foul But let a referee like this managed the biggest club football game in the world is an absolute disgrace How hard is it to get good refs, honestly like the balance of the game every 50/50 This is before Mosquera incident
