This resilience was driven by both the massive AI hardware buildout (chips, servers) and by the re-direction of trade away from the US. Tariffs didn't shrink the pie, they just changed who got which slice. But this recent shock hits differently. The Strait of Hormuz closure is a supply shock, not a tariff shock. Even with the possibility of an agreement, a strait blocked and damaged oil & gas production raises the cost of everything that passes through (energy, fertilizer, helium), risking a true fracture in the trade network, at least for a noticeable time. As investors, we're still focusing on the 3 R's: Receivers of AI capital, Resources, and Recoveries.
