@mprioleau That's my favorite t-shirt of all time, still wearing it from time to time even though it's quite worn out. I've been lobbying @Mapbox for years to re-release it. They did a redesigned one, but it's not the same, I need an exact copy of the old one, preferably 10 of them 😞

Among many important discussions at #SOTMUS22 was an attempt to build the definitive list of the ten best geo industry t-shirts of all time. This is one. The craftmapper one. A Null Island but not sure which. I’m biased but like the Locate one. What else? Discuss.

@KonturInc What's up with the place names? These (US) cities of Hamilton and Fairfield seem to have been transliterated through some other language.

@JerradThramer @housecor Half the time using this prefix makes me feel a bit guilty for nitpicking and obligated to balance it with some encouragement – which is the harder part of reviewing IMO. 😅

A little code review habit I appreciate: When my teammates make a minor suggestion, they often prefix it with "Nit:" It's a short, polite way to say "I know this is minor, but I suggest changing this." Useful for misspellings, typos, naming suggestions, etc

@carbonatethis @bmatzner @housecor Prefixing with “nit” is a form of self-deprecation, similar to “IMHO”, but I write out something clearer if it could be misunderstood. Personally, there are things I “nit” about, and then there are things I’ll let slide without comment (like whitespace).

@bradleege @1ec5 I've been looking into this since morning and I think my question boils down to: is there a way to make the light cast shadows of extruded objects. In SceneKit it's as simple as setting `castsShadow=true ` on the directional light. Don't know how I can access this in Metal.

Why is there a Wikidata item for me? Is Wiki creating a social graph for everyone? I do like the description though: "American software engineer and geographer"

@bhousel @cbed32 @openstreetmap @bdiscoe I guess it depends on where you compare the S.F. area to and who you count as a community participant, but regardless we could always use more participation. Underrepresented pockets here get overlooked b/c of the community being spread thin.

@cbed32 @openstreetmap Does SF really have lower community participation in OSM? I thought it was on the higher end. Powermapper @bdiscoe is (was?) super active there, maybe he knows how the community is doing?

Apple Maps does have some beautiful cartography. Detail focused on epicenters of tech like SF. But SF and similar have lower community participation in @openstreetmap yet get priority from Apple in data detail vs community hubs across Africa, eastern Europe, etc.

Anyone know how to use Overpass Turbo to run queries that generate a lot of data, to save as GeoJSON, without attempting to render them in the browser? #gischat

@thomersch @mvexel Is there a good way to merge events other than to cancel one? The last time I needed to resolve a duplicate, weeklyOSM ended up showing a canceled event, which was confusing. Maybe @mvexel knows of another upcoming event that 675 can be repurposed for?

"I wondered why Americans used an ambiguous-sounding name for Agent Orange while Vietnamese farmers, like my parents, chose instead to address it head-on: chất độc da cam, or, 'the poison, Agent Orange,'" writes @nguyen_p_quemai. nyti.ms/3eJoh9X

@tmcw OOO or WFH? Post an issue in /out (but first find the perfect animated GIF to put in it). The most accurate employee calendar I’ve ever seen.
