@talllguy Oh yeah, these are corn mazes. Lots of them to map every fall: openstreetmap.org/user/Minh%20Ng… Use tourism=attraction, attraction=maze, and maze=corn_maze
English

I bet people map these things on #OpenStreetMap… @1ec5 is there a tag you’ve seen?

@mvexel Just another day in @codeforsanjose’s effort to put small businesses on the map. Anyone can help, thanks to @maproulette: maproulette.org/browse/project…
English

@mvexel @Dvortygirl you probably know of soooo many examples to put mine to shame

@mourner @mprioleau @Mapbox Are there shops that duplicate T-shirts like keys? Should’ve gotten myself a spare before this one shrank. 🔑
English

@mprioleau That's my favorite t-shirt of all time, still wearing it from time to time even though it's quite worn out. I've been lobbying @Mapbox for years to re-release it. They did a redesigned one, but it's not the same, I need an exact copy of the old one, preferably 10 of them 😞
English

Among many important discussions at #SOTMUS22 was an attempt to build the definitive list of the ten best geo industry t-shirts of all time. This is one. The craftmapper one. A Null Island but not sure which. I’m biased but like the Locate one. What else? Discuss.

@todrobbins @WikiCommons Not definitive but hopefully helpful in the context of #openstreetmap and its name suggestion index: #Uploading_images" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:brand…

anyone know of a good quick guide on uploading corporate logos to @WikiCommons?

@Eiimcology @KonturInc Through Russian, looks like? #Translations" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Hamilton#…
English

@KonturInc What's up with the place names? These (US) cities of Hamilton and Fairfield seem to have been transliterated through some other language.

The whole new Disaster Ninja is released. New features make it a versatile tool for #OpenStreetMap community.
We want to guide you through its functionality. The thread will be updated as more features become available.

@JerradThramer @housecor Half the time using this prefix makes me feel a bit guilty for nitpicking and obligated to balance it with some encouragement – which is the harder part of reviewing IMO. 😅
English

@carbonatethis @bmatzner @housecor Prefixing with “nit” is a form of self-deprecation, similar to “IMHO”, but I write out something clearer if it could be misunderstood. Personally, there are things I “nit” about, and then there are things I’ll let slide without comment (like whitespace).

@ekurutepe @bradleege It looks like building shadows are still an outstanding feature request for GL JS: github.com/mapbox/mapbox-… Maybe some of the experiments in that ticket translate to custom layers with Metal.
English

@bradleege @1ec5 I've been looking into this since morning and I think my question boils down to: is there a way to make the light cast shadows of extruded objects. In SceneKit it's as simple as setting `castsShadow=true ` on the directional light. Don't know how I can access this in Metal.
English

I wonder if I know any Mapbox experts here? stackoverflow.com/questions/7048…
English

@xkcd If en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handly's_… had been decided differently, a location could alternate between states based on both the time and recent weather conditions upriver.
English

@cbed32 @Wikipedia What’s even more fascinating is that every single one is cobbled together from systematically named building blocks: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia… commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:…
English

I am slightly fascinated by the detailed graph format of Swiss railway entries on @wikipedia

English

@bhousel @cbed32 @openstreetmap @bdiscoe I guess it depends on where you compare the S.F. area to and who you count as a community participant, but regardless we could always use more participation. Underrepresented pockets here get overlooked b/c of the community being spread thin.
English

@cbed32 @openstreetmap Does SF really have lower community participation in OSM? I thought it was on the higher end. Powermapper @bdiscoe is (was?) super active there, maybe he knows how the community is doing?
English

Apple Maps does have some beautiful cartography. Detail focused on epicenters of tech like SF. But SF and similar have lower community participation in @openstreetmap yet get priority from Apple in data detail vs community hubs across Africa, eastern Europe, etc.
English

@stevage1 @cbed32 @gischatbot Here’s the library (w/ demo page) that Overpass turbo uses to perform that conversion to GeoJSON: tyrasd.github.io/osmtogeojson/
English

@1ec5 @cbed32 @gischatbot Converting Overpass JSON to GeoJSON manually is seriously non-trivial. I've made that mistake before!
English

Anyone know how to use Overpass Turbo to run queries that generate a lot of data, to save as GeoJSON, without attempting to render them in the browser? #gischat
English

@cbed32 @stevage1 @gischatbot You could switch to the Data tab before running the query. Otherwise, the Overpass API returns a flavor of JSON that you could convert to GeoJSON using a tool like jq wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Overpass_… stedolan.github.io/jq/
English

@thomersch @mvexel Is there a good way to merge events other than to cancel one? The last time I needed to resolve a duplicate, weeklyOSM ended up showing a canceled event, which was confusing. Maybe @mvexel knows of another upcoming event that 675 can be repurposed for?
English

@mvexel @1ec5 You seem to have competing osmcal events :) osmcal.org/event/675/ osmcal.org/event/628/
Would you mind merging them?

@nguyen_p_quemai @nytopinion @nytimes Here’s hoping we’ll see it more in the future. 🙏 NYT style carries a lot of weight, including at #Wikipedia: notes.1ec5.org/archives/2021/… @juliehoangmy @findingsen @viet_t_nguyen
