tom lehrer died a few days ago. i put on one of his albums. last track is all about vatican 2. describes it as an ecumenical council, jokes about relative theological intricacies. im surprised that the audience is all laughing and gets it. where was it recorded? cali - bay area.

I appreciate what you are saying. My family has held hands since the kids were little during the Our Father, also holding them up (doubly offensive!). I know some people have been complaining about this whole issue, but I am not about to tell my kids, we can’t hold hands during the Our Father anymore, some busybodies don’t like it. I am 100% confident that God takes no offense at our family holding hands while we pray the prayer taught to us by Jesus.

@jaloway @johnbyronkuhner I'm sure there are ways that Steubenville can still be a strong town, but you cannot dismiss the complete collapse of steel industry in the Ohio River Valley.
It's not to say it's unfixable, but it's a fact. Western PA and WV there too, ie Weirton.

I break from many conservatives in saying I think income tax is the most fair tax there is... if it's not excessively progressive.
Property tax is levied regardless of your income but what you OWN. If government can tax what you own, you don't own it.

Property taxes are local, not state. So we’d need to do a constitutional amendment (requires 60% of voters to approve) to eliminate them (which I would support) or even to reform/lower them… We should put the boldest amendment on the ballot that has a chance of getting that 60%… I agree that taxing land/property is the more oppressive and ineffective form of taxation…

@NRO @jackbutler4815 I run a very small school in Ohio. The chartering process needed to qualify for EdChoice does not work for us. But, the scholarship tax credit does & is great way for unchartered schools to provide tuition help. If the similar recently introduced federal bill passes - amazing.
