New EV charging math: 15,000 miles annually EV: 90% at home. 0 minutes. 10% fast chargers. 10 stops, 5-10 hrs. Often coincides with breaks/eating/multitasking. Gas: 60 gas station trips. 15 minutes each (driving there, parking, fueling). 15 hrs. You save time with an EV.

@MichaelWWara I think the CAA modifications in IRA significantly help here. It was amended to specifically call out application to CO2. Do you feel that is still insufficient?

I read this and the new vehicle rule and feel in my heart and in my stomach the fear that Mass v EPA will be the next “settled” area of law overturned by the Court. It was 5-4. Are their 5 votes today to uphold it in a “major question” case? nytimes.com/2023/04/22/cli…

Odd to see this ad on the day @EPA is proposing to reduce emissions from cars and trucks. Reducing food waste is important, but the data does not support the statement that its emissions are greater than all transportation combined. @IBM

In 2021 automakers endorsed 50% of all new cars being zero emission in 2030. Reportedly, this rule would call for 54% in 2030. What happened between 2021 and today? Enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act which included the largest incentives for EVs in US history.
Matthew Daly@MatthewDalyWDC

The EPA proposal, to be released Wed., would set GHG emissions limits for 2027-32 model years that are even stricter than goals the auto industry agreed to, calling for half of new car sales to be EVs by 2030. My story w @AP auto writer @tkrisher apnews.com/article/biden-…

A Minnesota utility is testing a 5% hydrogen blend in the natural gas it's sending to customers for heating and cooking. The hydrogen isn't quite "green," but the test is going well so far: canarymedia.com/articles/hydro…

Sens Carper, Schumer, Manchin, Speaker Pelosi & others in Congress deserve all the credit for the Inflation Reduction Act. Its a historic step to address climate change. They were helped by dozens of staffers including me. Thanks @JodyFreemanHLS for the opty to talk about the IRA

New CleanLaw! @JodyFreemanHLS & @1gregdotson chat about the IRA, which he helped negotiate, draft, and facilitate its passage. They discuss reconciliation and US GHG emissions in the near and not so near future, as the Act promotes cleaner tech innovation eelp.law.harvard.edu/2022/08/cleanl…

@JimOleske @jadler1969 @JimOleske has the perfect analogy. Sen Carper says correctly that now the CAA reflects Mass v EPA; Congress agrees that ghgs are pollutants. @jadler1969’s impolite tweet (which he should delete) insults anyone who thinks that that is worthwhile.

Either Sen. Carper doesn't understand the real legal challenges facing EPA, or he thinks he can snow gullible constituencies. T the various pollutant definitions in the IRA do little to expand EPA regulatory authority.
