@VjDontMiss @WARDEVILHQ why wouldnt he be able to think or do anything for himself? and anyway, the reset was only really about Denji being able to continue dreaming and desiring without engaging in self-destructive habits, which is definitely possible in this new world.

@1iammmm @WARDEVILHQ The cycle was getting dull at points and him jus getting a new world where he still cant think for himself like that or do anything for himself without pochita even being there is jus like what

@VjDontMiss @WARDEVILHQ i get that, but i still find it interesting as a character study and as a metacommentary on fujimoto. i dont think that character regression is only a satisfying arc if we see the recovery, even tho i understand it can be frustrating from an emotional perspective.

@1iammmm @WARDEVILHQ Like I needed to see Denji actually be mature and grow instead of falling flat on his face Like real permanent development

@VjDontMiss @WARDEVILHQ i dont really think equating pochita & denji's relationship to drug addiction is correct. he is an addict but its much more complex & unique than a drug addiction. i dont think an ending in which denji figures it out himself is inherently better. could u elaborate?

@1iammmm @WARDEVILHQ Its like if Cocaine had conscious and removed itself from equation? Eh like I think pochita realized he 2as the problem but a good story wouldve made denji figure that out instead of the drug figuring it out

@hana_biart @crombula_ as if she didn't organize the whole csm church, which greatly empowered yoru and csm, which inadvertently "changed" and caused the prophecy to be fulfilled.

@VjDontMiss @WARDEVILHQ i interpret it as pochita recognizing that he is an enabling force, and, having observed denji engage in self destructive tendencies, decides that denji being csm and having a normal life fundamentally cannot coexist. its definitely not a "happy ending," but it's hopeful.

@FoolPlanet No its actually meaningless bc I can't derive any meaning from a story unless the characters are also able to derive the same meaning from the story and are able to tell me the message during the ending.

@CorNthe6th @blkcatgirlsplz Yeah exactly. I don't think saying Denji was "rewarded" is a good way to frame it bc essentially his autonomy was taken away, and his best friend had to die to give him even the possibility of being able to continue dreaming/having a good life.

@blkcatgirlsplz This tweet really made me realize why pochita making the choice for Denji was not a bad writing choice. It’s basically the quintessential of having your loved one committed. Although it can be unethical it’s also seen as a last resort which I feel CSM realized needed to be done

@JLO_QQQ @Dopamane_3 exactly. i dont think everyone has to like the ending, but to call it meaningless is entirely disengenous. Like it or not fujimoto had many messages he wanted to convey with part 2, many of which successfully impacted readers.

@1iammmm @Dopamane_3 I’ve been seeing a bunch of people with that take. I agree with you though, Just because there was a reset doesn’t mean everything that happened in the story was meaningless. In fact the context of what happens is what makes the ending more satisfying

@Dopamane_3 @JLO_QQQ "real life" human being doesn't understand the concept that just because a character's development was "erased" in the final chapter doesn't actually mean you can't reread the story and see the characters develop 🤯😭

@Nick27459033405 @CouchPotato232 i think her being given a second chance at life and no longer having to justify her existence by trying to save someone she barely knows is pretty meaningful, even if it wasn't a direct result of her own actions

@CouchPotato232 Its less about the “le character development” and more her character doesn’t have a meaningful conclusion. Her interaction with yoru is great, but then shes not even given a chance to act on that conversation, thats just it for her before everything is reset

Anime/Manga fans when they realize a story does not need to adhere to the traditional concept of "character development," and that it is instead just a singular tool a writer may utilize if they wish, not a requirement necessary to portray their intent
GIF
Ichi@Ichigo_WD

This is not character development. A character develops when they DECIDE to make different choices. Pochita erasing himself and Denji stopping Asa from falling were things completely out of her control. Asa didn't develop. Her circumstances simply magically changed.

@IlBuono12 @nbasamitaka that’s a fair point, but i feel that the message of the cycle of addiction, as well as how childhood trauma can have a long lasting impact on someone is more emphasized by having denji not just “get over it.” it might not be a super moral story, but it is definitely compelling.

@IlBuono12 @nbasamitaka which denji wants. i view p2 as a character study of how being csm could destroy the life that denji built, and i feel that pochita taking away being csm from denji was the only ending that allowed denji to continue dreaming, as proved by the events of p2.

@IlBuono12 @nbasamitaka i feel that the point of p2 was that denji’s life as csm was unsustainable, so regardless of whether or not he “got better” he would never be happy bc he was csm, and as we’ve seen in p1 and p2, being csm is diametrically opposed to having a normal life, 1/2

@IlBuono12 @nbasamitaka personally i view part 1 as fujimoto “building” denji and forming his character and bad habits, and then part 2 is him breaking down his character and showing all the flaws in his personality from part 1, which is interesting to me (and building to pochita sacrifice).

@1iammmm @nbasamitaka Yeah they can, but this is not it. The entirety of part 2 is building something, and you're telling me that that something is Fujimoto just going "guys it's actually too fucked to fix, we gotta go back". That's just not interesting to me at all, I don't understand how it could be
