@MattMahanSJ Matt you've jumped on the blame Trump bandwagon. Maybe at the margins Iran has impacted Ca gas prices but we all know high prices is mostly due to bad state policy.

Trump's war in Iran is pushing energy costs through the roof. As Governor, I'll do three things to ease the pain at the pump: 1. Suspend the gas tax 2. Keep our remaining refineries open 3. Make it easier to build the energy grid of the future

Hey Marc, this audit mostly covers a period of time before I took office, but I ran on the same concerns about our previous approach. Since that audit, we’ve created detailed tracking, dashboards, and have increased accountability for shelter utilization, cost per bed, and outcomes. We’ve switched out underperforming nonprofit service providers at specific sites, and are competitively rebidding all shelter services to bring down costs. Overall, we’ve reduced the number of people living outside faster than any other big city thanks to a very data driven approach. Accountability for outcomes with consistent performance tracking and reporting is how we make better use of our limited public dollars.

I knew there were a lot of fake accounts on this platform, but they are usually obvious. I had no idea how intricate and complex the ruse could be. Get a load of this story. 1/

As of midday Saturday, 10 House races in California had yet to be called, with control of the House on the line. Also uncalled were a few closely fought ballot initiatives, including one that would gradually raise the minimum wage to $18 per hour. As of Saturday, there were nearly 5 million uncounted ballots, including more than 950,000 in Los Angeles County alone. County officials have 30 days to count their ballots and report them to the secretary of state, which then certifies the results.

@AlexBerenson Agree 100%. The man who wants to be president needs to focus on and fix Ca's homelessness, crime, housing, and budget. Instead he's doubling down on empty-headed policy and press releases.

@MSmelkinsonPhD This. I was a dedicated lefty until Covid. The biggest lie was “we follow the science” while keeping the Ca schools closed a year longer than the science necessitated.

I would like to think that last night was partially a referendum on Covid.  Not that I think it's a hot issue right now, but because it is what opened many eyes to the hypocrisy on the left. 🧵

In a shocking revelation, the Justice Department has uncovered a massive fraud scheme, exposing the theft of $250 million from a federal program designed to provide meals for children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This marks the largest Covid-19-related fraud discovered by investigators to date, leading to charges against 47 individuals involved in the deceitful operation. Individuals connected to the nonprofit Feeding Our Future established shell companies to divert funds meant for vulnerable children. They deceitfully claimed to operate meal distribution sites, deceiving authorities into providing reimbursements for meals that were never served. Feeding Our Future employees recruited individuals and entities to open Federal Child Nutrition Program sites throughout the state of Minnesota,” the Justice Department said in a release. “These sites, created and operated by the defendants and others, fraudulently claimed to be serving meals to thousands of children a day within just days or weeks of being formed.” Abdiaziz Farah, 35, who was charged in September 2022, owned Empire Cuisine and Market in Shakopee. The other defendants on trial include his brother, Said Shafii Farah, as well as Mohamed Jama Ismail, Abdimajid Mohamed Nur, Abdiwahab Maalim Aftin, Mukhtar Mohamed Shariff and Hayat Mohamed Nur. Hadith Yusuf Ahmed, one of the 70 people charged in the case, and the first to plead guilty said he was the “right hand man” of Feeding Our Future founder Aimee Bock The defendants knowingly submitted false claims to the Minnesota Department of Education, contributing to the misappropriation of over $240 million in federal funds. To conceal their activities, the defendants conducted large wire transfers to overseas banks in China and Kenya

It is concerning that the Governor feels the need to step in and address issues typically handled by Oakland's local leadership. Does this indicate a lack of confidence in the city's ability to develop a comprehensive plan?
Governor Gavin Newsom@CAgovernor

California is announcing a new 10-point action plan to improve Oakland's streets. These improvements will further assist the city in cleaning up neighborhoods, enriching public spaces by removing litter and debris, and improving safety on our streets.

The Legislature is trying to undermine our Initiative to End Prop. 47. The Supermajority just introduced the so-called "Retail Theft Reduction Act." This is a ploy. The bill leaves Prop. 47 intact. Get a petition at End47.com and help us make crime illegal again.

In the words of John Fetterman, Gavin Newsom is "running for President right now" but doesn't have the "guts to announce it." He is thereby avoiding the standard vetting process. Americans deserve to know some basic facts about his governorship: *California had never lost population before Newsom became Governor. We have since led the nation four straight years in U-Haul departures per capita. *California has a record $68 billion deficit while other states have a surplus. Newsom is proposing cuts for foster kids while still offering free health coverage for all undocumented immigrants. *Newsom has spent $20 billion on homelessness the last five years only to have the problem get much worse. Half of all unsheltered homeless in the whole country now live in California. *Under Newsom, California has the nation’s highest real poverty rate. We also have the nation's second highest unemployment and ranked last in personal income growth. *California has the lowest literacy rate in the country. There are 800 California schools where 75 percent of students do not read at grade level. *California has by far the highest gas prices in the continental United States. Newsom has repeatedly raised the gas tax and proposed a whole new gas tax, which even the Supermajority Legislature rejected. Our roads are rated among the worst in the country. *Newsom proclaimed COVID an "opportunity" for a "new progressive era" and proceeded to impose the most extreme school closures and business lockdowns in the nation. California wound up with among the nation's worst health outcomes. *Newsom was the only Governor in America to impose a student vaccine mandate for COVID, which applied to all grade levels. He withdrew it in humiliation when not a single state followed his "lead." *Newsom signed a law called AB 5 that put hundreds of thousands of freelancers and independent contractor out of work. His own deputy chief of staff called it "one of the most destructive pieces of legislation in the past 20 years." *An NPR investigation found that Newsom exaggerated the work he'd done to prevent wildfires by an "astounding 690 percent." Many of the worst fires in state history have occurred on his watch. *Newsom continues to support Prop. 47, the law responsible for California's epidemic of retail theft and smash-and-grabs, when even the mayors of San Francisco and San Jose favor overturning it. *Newsom calls California a "model for the nation."
