Meet our mom, Jaqueline Perry Waite. As much as I fought against repeating her motherly mistakes and becoming more "like her" than I wanted to, as an adult I've come to accept how much like her I actually am, and how grateful I am for that. She'd have turned 100 on April 24❤️

I received sad news that Mary Beth Ruskai passed away Sept. 27, 2023 at her home in Vermont. She was a titan of quantum information & mathematical physics, most known for her joint proof of strong subadditivity of quantum entropy. She was a strong promoter of women in science.

Here's physicist Anne L'Huillier finishing up her class this morning, moments after learning she'd won a Nobel Prize. Well done, professor!

Anne L’Huillier is now the 5th woman to win a Nobel Prize in physics, sharing w/2 others for work to “generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter.” (She’s also just the 2nd woman to win the Wolf Prize in Physics after CS Wu in 1978.) Congrats!

“Ten years ago I was kicked out and forced to retire.” Our new medicine laureate Katalin Karikó (@kkariko) told us how much it means to be awarded the Nobel Prize after a scientific career that has been full of challenges. Ten years ago, Karikó was still doing all her experiments by hand but today she has been awarded the medicine prize for her research on mRNA, which led to the development of COVID-19 vaccines.
