@kevinf567 @AscendedYield Pensioners **already have** the best access to the services the public should receive - they can beat the 8 AM GP rush, they can receive passported benefits too. I'm all for tax cuts, but these need to be targeted to the right places, not creating additional tax distortions.

It’s good policy Real wages have been stagnant, especially in sectors where overtime is high, putting extra hours in has been the way for many to make ends meet, getting to keep more of what you make is a better policy than anything the government has come up
Zia Yusuf@ZiaYusufUK

It’s time to stop PUNISHING people who work the hardest and drowning them in taxes like the Tory Labour uniparty. A Reform government will ABOLISH INCOME TAX on overtime pay. Britain was built on the hard labour of people who go the extra mile. Thank you!

@kevinf567 @AscendedYield It's not at the expensive of either of those groups, rather the opposite. Working people don't have ringfenced entitlements / inflation protected allowances, whereas pensioners have the triple lock and UC have inflationary increases. This will only result in less services.

@AscendedYield Camilo gets it. Everyone’s nitpicking but at the end of the day it’s a tax cut for workers at the expense of welfares and pensioners.

@BenRamanauskas You can’t reduce civil service headcount without reducing the number of things the government does, which is where the Tories went wrong. Infinitely adding more functions, benefits and spending without while attempting reductions.

Freeze the State Pension for a few years, increase the age, and abolish the Triple Lock. Reduce the size of the civil service.

Incredibly high levels of borrowing and debt. PSNFL at 83.6% GDP. PSND at 94.2% GDP (highest level since the early 60s). The extra borrowing is funding increases to benefits (including the State Pension), the public sector, & debt interest payments. This is not sustainable.
Office for National Statistics (ONS)@ONS

Borrowing – the difference between total public sector spending and income – was £24.3 billion in April 2026, 25% more than in April 2025. Read more➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/govern…

@OBEhizele Modern left and right is defined by your position on social issues, and when your social housing occupants are on both sides of the aisle (Reform performs best with socially housed voters) it’s harder to make a coherent economic argument that they’d agree with.

I feel that social housing discourse is one of the few areas where the traditional left-right political divide still clearly emerges. For most modern issues, those binaries have become increasingly anachronistic.

@_Unknown_D_ There are entire classes of people who have their living costs paid / heavily subsidised yet don’t perceive it as such since the state doesn’t tally their benefits.

It’s kinda startling to me that more than half the households in the UK take out more from the state in benefits, than they put it in, in the form of taxes. And the daily political discourse from Labour is how they can find new and creative ways to increase the burden on the other portion of society that give more than they take.

The usual myths. I worked in public and private sector, and all three organisations I worked for had redundancy rounds. And they all looked like each other. Ask for voluntary, go compulsory if necessary. Because that's what fits best.
Henry Hill@HCH_Hill

The fun thing about Civil Service headcount reductions is that their contract terms are so insane that the Government can't afford to just dismiss people, so it has to go for voluntary redundancy which takes out the best people with the most options.

@HCH_Hill They should do this more in the Civil Service - when seniors wanted 33% reductions in my team, it ended up being the youngest and the lower people forced out, despite our grade pyramid being bloated in the middle. No manager is ever going to decide that their own job should go.

From personal experience, any headcount reduction tends to target the bottom line as opposed to bloated management teams in order to save cost and face. The most effective option would be externally decide them as opposed to the managers trying to save their own jobs.

A social network app in London that only accepts people earning £50k+ is genuinely hilarious. The idea of treating £50k in London as some elite social threshold in 2026. And people are prepared to submit their payslip/NI to join?? Lool.

Horrifying news from San Diego yesterday, where worshippers were attacked just days before Eid al-Adha. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Muslim community in San Diego. I know British Muslims are feeling deep anxiety today, with this news coming just days after a march spread hatred on the streets of London. We have record levels of funding for protecting mosques in this country, but we must do more than build higher walls. It is incumbent on everyone, across society, to stand together in solidarity against hatred. I know the British people will do so today.

They will write about the zenith of consumer wealth in human history, from 1991-2008 Perhaps this level of wealth distribution will never return again. Even the greatest of past civilisations had high inequality, including the British Empire.

Hooters Air (2003-2006) The airline reportedly lost around $40 million before shutting down. Rising fuel costs and intense airline competition made it hard to stay profitable. Some flights even handed out free chicken wings to passengers.
