@KyleKulinski I know a lot of people that are way overpaid. Have you been to a fast food restaurant lately? Some of those people should be making about 3 dollars an hour

“A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop…” So? It’s not like there aren’t dozens of other coffee shops that will be happy to take your business and pay their staff. This argument happens every time with minimum wage rises. It’s nonsense.
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

@imfat I can't help laughing at ridiculous posts like this when I see them. I'm about to buy my second house. It's listed for 30k. I'll get it for 25. It's unlivable at the moment, but I'll put the work to fix it up on the weekends and it will be worth 125 when I'm done.

Older generations say “we all struggled in our 20s.” No, you didn’t. You didn’t pay $3,100 rent and $10 eggs. You didn’t graduate with $60K debt and no job security. Gen Z isn’t dramatic. They’re drowning.

@_TaylorKitchen_ Reached its breaking point? This type of pack racing has been goin on for the last 25-30 years lol. The big one has been there for just as long. Lol. I think it’s exciting racing, however I’m not behind the wheel or paying for the wrecked cars. Not sure what you mean by this.

@esjesjesj Sex Ed was sold as a solution to teen pregnancy and STDs. After it was introduced to schools, we saw an increase in teen pregnancy and STDs, including the aids epedimic. What data shows that this is good for kids?

@uoislame @basedlayer Anyone can buy a house. They just need to be less picky. There's a house for sale in my town right now for 20k. It needs a lot of work, and it's not in the best neighborhood, but you could afford it working at McDonalds

@basedlayer Boomers bought a house when America had 100 million less people and almost none of the 50 million foreign workers. But I’m sure that has nothing to do with why you can’t buy a house.

@MrPitbull07 When a man gets to the middle of his life and he is in a place where he can finally afford things he has wanted since he was a kid, and he buys those things, people call it a "crisis".

My husband told me for six months he was paying $150/month for a storage unit because we “needed more space” for seasonal decorations and old furniture. One day I decided to go clean it out and donate some stuff. I got the key from his desk and drove over. I opened the unit. There was a motorcycle. A beautiful, fully restored 1972 Honda CB750. And a workbench. And motorcycle tools. And motorcycle magazines. No seasonal decorations. No furniture. When he got home, I was sitting on the couch with the storage unit key on the coffee table. “Want to explain why we’re paying $150 a month to store a motorcycle I didn’t know you owned?” His face went white. “I… I can explain.” Turns out he’d bought it “as a project” a year earlier from a friend. He’d been going there on weekends when he said he was “running errands” or “getting car parts.” “Why didn’t you just tell me?” I asked. “Because I knew you’d think it was a waste of money. And dangerous. And I just… I wanted one thing that was mine.” We had a long talk. He kept the motorcycle. But he had to sell the storage unit and park it in our garage. He rides it every Sunday morning now. I still think it’s a midlife crisis on two wheels, but he’s happy. ~Amelia Carter
