Tobacco Harm Reduction 101
🧵 THREAD: What has @THR101 been working on lately? Over the past several weeks, we’ve been analyzing major tobacco and nicotine policy proposals across the U.S. — from tax hikes to regulatory overhauls. Here’s a snapshot of what’s happening across the states 👇 #THR #HarmReduction #PublicHealth

Mark my words. Australia’s cost-of-living crisis didn’t start in Tehran — it started in Canberra. It won’t take a crystal ball to predict what the Treasurer will say when Labor hands down its budget in May. Iran. They’ll blame the war in the Middle East for higher fuel prices and rising costs. But Australians know the truth. Under Labor we’ve seen: • higher inflation • higher energy prices • more taxes • more red tape When government spending explodes and economic discipline disappears, families pay the price. And when things go wrong under Labor, there’s always someone else to blame. First it was Covid. Then the Coalition. Then Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Then US tariffs. Now it will be Iran. But the real problem isn’t overseas — it’s Labor’s spending, taxes, regulation and energy policy here at home. The more Labor spends, the more prices inflate. And the more Australians pay — at the checkout, at the bowser, and on their mortgage. Instead of understanding basic economics, Treasurer Chalmers keeps adding fuel to the economic bin fire he set alight. And that fuel is Labor’s unrestrained spending, excessive regulation, onerous taxation, and net zero energy ideology.

@coller81 @LeeHurstComic Actually I use a very small device, runs on an 18650 battery at about 15 watts... The liquids I use are also heavily tested for impurities. So guess what bud looks like you are shit out of luck calling me an idiot.....

I've written to ask the ACCC to help ensure fuel retailers don't use events in the Middle East to price gouge Australians.

@LeeHurstComic Who ever thought sucking on a battery would be healthier than tobacco. At least tobacco is plant based. Also most vapers have it glued to their hands 😂😂😂

Utah’s HB 337 would more than DOUBLE the cigarette tax — from $1.70 to $3.70 per pack — while slapping an 86% wholesale tax on nicotine pouches & alternative products. Smoking is already at record lows. Why raise regressive taxes now? #UTLeg #UTPol #HB337 thr101.org/post/hb-337-wo…

🤣🤣🤣 What a joke! Ask an expert. Honestly Universities shouldn’t be letting their staff go public with such unscientific ‘hypotheses’ 🤦🏻‍♀️ Robust credible science shows head to head trials of vaping for smoking cessation beat nicotine replacement products (see Cochrane Systematic Reviews to start with). Real life data shows smoking rapidly dropping where people have access to risk-reduced alternatives to cigarettes e.g. in Sweden, NZ, Japan, UK, USA, South Korea and on and on…

🚨 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: HB 145 has DIED in committee in Mississippi. Another win for THR101 and evidence-based policy. 🎉 The bill would have raised cigarette & vape taxes to fund hospital uncompensated care — relying on regressive excise taxes. #MSLeg #THR101 thr101.org/post/mississip…

@FCTCofficial Australia 3%? 😂 "But the high prices have also given rise to a thriving black market now estimated to be a multibillion-dollar industry that accounts for as much as half of all tobacco sales in the country." nytimes.com/2026/02/15/wor…

🚭Myth vs Fact starts now. 🚬Plain packaging infringes on intellectual property rights and increases illicit trade. Fact: Courts & tribunals worldwide reject these claims: • Australia (2012): No increase in illicit trade; it remains around 3%. • Uruguay (2019): Tobacco industry lost a lawsuit after the president signed a plain packaging law. • Global legal challenges: Attempts in Australia, UK, France, Norway, and at the WTO were rejected. The tobacco industry spreads fear to oppose plain packaging, claiming: - Trademark violations - Threats of increased smuggling 👉Plain packaging is legal, evidence-based, and does not fuel illicit trade. fctc.who.int/resources/publ…🔗 fctc.who.int/resources/publ…🔗
