Dearest Mother— At long last, the frost has loosened its grip on the Palouse, and the fields surrounding Pullman awaken once more—not with quiet spring rain, but with the thunder of cleats and the clash of iron. Spring practice has begun. I stood at dawn upon the high ground near Martin Stadium, where the morning fog rolled like battlefield smoke across the turf. Below me, our regiment assembled—stronger, faster, and far more battle-tested than those who came before. These are not boys playing at football… these are men preparing for war. There is a different look in their eyes this year, Mother. A fire not seen in many campaigns. The trials of seasons past—the betrayals, the doubts, the exile of our proud banner from its rightful place among the nation’s elite—have forged something unbreakable. They have taken our measure… and found us wanting. That mistake will not be made again. Word travels fast across the territories. They say the landscape is shifting… conferences crumbling, alliances forming, power up for the taking. Good. Let chaos reign. For it is in chaos that hardened units rise to command. And mark me well—this fall, the Cougars do not intend to participate… We intend to conquer. Every drill this spring is a sharpening of the blade. Every drop of sweat, a down payment on victory. The quarterbacks command with greater authority. The lines move as one—like a wall of steel. The young recruits, once green, now carry themselves like seasoned officers ready for the charge. There will be battles, yes. Fierce ones. Hostile crowds. Doubters who will line the roads hoping to witness our fall. Let them come. Let them gather. For they will leave with heads bowed, having witnessed the rise of something they cannot stop. Tell Cougar Nation this: the time for quiet hope has passed. This is the hour of expectation. Of belief. Of action. Pack Martin Stadium to the brim. Let the crimson fly like a war banner visible for miles across the Palouse. Let every opponent who dares step onto our ground feel the weight of it… the noise of it… the inevitability of it. For what is being built here is not simply a team. It is a force. I trust all is well back home in Prosser—may the fields be calm, for they will not be so here for much longer. And soon, Mother… the nation will remember exactly who we are. Your Son, General Kirby Moore #Gocougs

Alabama airman and father of 3, Major Alex Klinner, identified as one of the six Americans who was killed when a KC-135 crashed in Iraq. Klinner was a father to a two-and-a-half-year-old and seven-month-old twins. His wife, Libby, posted the following on Instagram: “On March 12, our world shattered. Alex and his crew were on the plane that crashed in Iraq. I'm devastated to lose the best person I know, the person that made everything more fun, my best friend. But even more so, my heart is broken for our three kids who will grow up not knowing him. They won't get to see firsthand the way he would jump up to help in any way he could. They won't see how goofy and funny he was. They won't witness his selflessness, the way he thought about everyone else before himself. They won't get to feel the deep love he had for them. He was an incredible person and husband, but he was the best dad. It still doesn't feel real. I keep thinking that I'll get a text from him saying 'Sorry honey! Didn't mean to scare you' and everything will be alright. Because Alex always made everything alright. We just moved to a new home and we had so many exciting plans in the next few years. Now we are left to navigate the void left in our hearts. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Your words mean more than you know. These are some of the last photos we have together before he deployed. He was crushed that he had to leave us. I'Il forever remember this heartbreaking goodbye.” I am linking the GoFundMe below that was launched by Klinner’s sister-in-law, Sarah Rose Harrill. Heartbreaking. Videos: libbyklinnerteaching / ig.

To the Keepers of the Crimson Banner at GoCougs123, Take heart, steadfast chroniclers of the Palouse. Though the echoes of recent battles still hang in the cold Pullman air, I write to remind you—and all who march beneath this flag—that the best is not behind us. It lies ahead. We have known glory before. Few shine brighter than the legendary 2018 campaign—a season when belief became dominance. That team did not merely win; it announced itself. Eleven victories. A top-ten ranking. College GameDay rolling into Pullman as the nation finally took notice. Saturdays where opponents knew, before the opening whistle, they were in for something different. That squad sailed under the command of the late Mike Leach, the brilliant and unconventional naval captain who taught us to fear no storm, no ranked foe, and no convention. His crew played loose, fearless, and sharp—turning Martin Stadium into a place of genuine dread for visitors. That season was no mirage. It was proof of what Washington State can be when imagination, trust, and resolve align. That spirit has not been lost. It has merely been waiting. The ground is being prepared once more. The men will be hardened. The ranks will be filled with those who hunger for something larger than comfort. And when the time comes, the Cougs will again play fearless football—bold, defiant, and unapologetically our own. So write boldly. Post proudly. Keep the flame lit. For the winds will turn, the banners will rise, and glory will return to the Palouse. The best is yet to come. Respectfully, General Kirby Moore

@Caleb_Francl10 Thank you Caleb. It’s been a hot minute since Wazzu had a really good defense and you and your D teammates were a significant reason for it. Well done and it was a joy watching it this year.

WSU is working with a search firm called CSA "as a representative to help formalize and logistics with our search" for the next head coach, interim AD Jon Haarlow said. "There's a lot of interest, lot of great conversations going on, and we're moving forward with them."

The +1 Quarterback System When I was in high school, I competed against another quarterback who was a year older than me. Our coach felt we were both good and had earned the opportunity to be on the field, but in the beginning, he had no clear plan for how to rotate us. We didn’t know when we’d be going into games. We didn’t know how many reps we’d get. Every week, one or both of us left the field frustrated. By week four, our coach realized something needed to change. That’s when he created what he called the +1 System. Here’s how it worked: •The older quarterback would start the game and take the first series. •I would take the second series. •He’d return for the third series. •From there, whoever led the team to points—touchdown or field goal—earned the +1: the right to stay on the field for the next drive. If you didn’t score, the other quarterback got the next chance. This system did two powerful things: 1. It created clarity. We weren’t left guessing anymore—we knew exactly what was expected and how the rotation worked. 2. It shifted the focus to the ultimate measure of a quarterback: could you get your team into the end zone? Not stats. Not style. Just results. For that situation, it was the perfect system. And honestly, I think too many coaches today still try to split reps without a clear plan. That only creates frustration and confusion. The +1 is a great model because it’s measurable, consistent, and fair. It gives quarterbacks confidence that if they do their job, they’ll stay on the field. If they don’t, someone else gets the chance.
