It’s more so players disliking the thought of something being changed for those who wouldn’t commit either way. There is no true objective solution. Veterans adapt faster and widen the gap before newcomers can catch up. “Strongest survive” kinda deal. If you hate playing catchup? That’s it.

why are some fighting players just against the idea of designing them to make it easier for new people to play them i do Not understand... you'd think it would be GOOD to have more players for a genre that is struggling to do that

I read this and it’s apparent that you just can’t win with people. You put someone on a pedestal and they haven’t lived up to your expectations now you hold this deep resentment. You are disgruntled that someone likes and or respects someone you don’t. It offends you that people hold this person in high regard and you don’t. Because you can’t handle these emotions on your own? You rally others to your side to validate these feelings. Just read what you are saying, you’d think this man personally attacked you or your character. Do you know him personally or? Just when I think humans couldn’t be more petty

The fact that Maximilian has been crowned THE fighting game guy (for some reason) is a massive disservice to the fighting game scene. He only really cares about Capcom, VS fighters, and Killer Instinct. He transparently struggles to give a damn about any other company or series beyond that, yet still covers them out of some kind of forced obligation. And considering he gets his talking points from ResetEra of all places, I'm sure many would rather he didn't... Not to mention, he won't say or do anything to rustle the jimmies of big corpos he likes. The guy plays Monster Hunter and Resident Evil more than he plays fighting games... And gives the old excuse of "gotta keep muh numbers up" despite him being comfortably successful enough that he has zero need to chase what's popular. And the cherry on top is his fans are far more parasocial than even most VTubers. GFE VTubers, even. Speak ill of him and you'll have a thousand kids descend on you spewing some variation of the exact same preprogrammed response; "how could you be mean to Max he's like the nicest guy". Or, if they're feeling creative, a sarcastic "oh how dare a man give his opinions".

The genre is dependent on community momentum and that’s hard to sustain when players rotate to whatever is new and hype. Once that early “honeymoon window” passes, when everyone is learning together, sharing tech, and feeling like they’re part of something? People naturally drift to the next experience. A lot of players value that sense of community more than the game itself. The shared combos, the discoveries, and the excitement of being there at the start. After that? Things become more solitary. Most fighting games don’t “die.” They just lose the social layer that made them feel alive.

How does every fight game besides Street Fighter have a lifetime of a month? Is this genre just cursed?

I want to acknowledge something you said that a lot of people feel but struggle to articulate. I just ask that you hear me out in the same spirit. It is overwhelming. Even when you take a break, the game keeps moving and players keep improving. Adapting to that isn’t easy. It’s not because people are unemployed or have nothing better to do, it’s because they care enough to grow. Nobody enjoys losing, but we should give credit to the people who push through it and keep trying anyway. You don’t have to be “good” to enjoy fighting games, but you have to be willing to learn and grow from your mistakes. Absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying these games at a casual level either.

Sure, but I did mention fighting games get boring after a while. Unless that’s your main genre. Also how the unemployed ruin games. Specifically because they have time to get really good at these games. The average gamer doesn’t have the time to go on some kind of training arc to beat some guys whose entire life centers around a specific game. Even when you play ranked, it’s still not gonna be a perfect system when the skill floor is much higher than most popular games. So the demographic of gamers that fighting games are competing for is a relatively small number of players. So new fighting games struggle to keep up high numbers. Especially when you have big names like Tekken and Street Fighter.

@ADtheG @Bluueboyb If the blue check is the biggest obstacle here, that says more about the conversation than the community. The FGC has flaws, but it’s not defined by the worst examples.

@RyanJosephHart You’ll only see bias. Zero objective truth. Pick her and win if she is so easy. These guys are playing to win money not your respect. Players should exploit any advantage they get. That is competitive play, there are no moral victories. Player psychology is the true meta

But if you nerf Mai, someone else becomes public enemy number 1 and the cycle continues. Wouldn't it be more productive for your time investment to simply accept what it is and enjoy the game from that basis?

It’s very much possible to have civilized discussions. You cannot wholeheartedly disagree that you cannot become jaded via the nature of social media which I am empathetic of. I said various things, you focused on the one. I’ve been cheering you on since the very beginning. I could go back and list all the issues I’ve found in this game that were never resolved. You are a professional, I will speak to you as one. If I have misspoke? I’ll apologize, but I do not feel as though I have disrespected you in any way. As I’ve been saying over and over. People want to see you “win”. People want to see you evolve. These people who rally you are good people, but good people are the worst thing you can have in your corner when making a game.

Nope. They spent 10 years making a fighting. Left it in an abysmal mess. Hopping to a new game less than a year after your last game while its still broken and unplayable is NOT a good look.

@2Dee4ever youtube.com/watch?v=GpNAYN… This is the game engine Guardian Heroes is based off of, 4 player fg for the Genesis. Was pretty revolutionary for the time. They went on to use this engine for a few Bleach fighters on the DS as well.

Anyone remember this game? Someday, I’d like to see this mode in a fighting game. PVE content is undervalued. Consider the success + addictiveness of Musou titles. A horde of endless enemies you can blast through using your favorite characters. For this to work, the odds have to feel overwhelming, or at least come in escalating layers of difficulty. The emotional hook comes from granting the player the power to become a one‑man army.

@2Dee4ever I still think Guardian Heroes Battle Royal and Saturn Bomberman should be mainstays as "for fun" games at every tournament. Xbox exclusive challenge mode was GREAT at seeing the remade movesets in action. Burst, rebalanced movement & more purposeful magic series in action.
