I loved Spierings’s goal because it was such a contrast to how RSL had been attacking. They’d been trying to work it in, make the extra pass, but Spierings saw the net and decided to just have it. Stuver was clearly surprised. Being able to mix and match to the situation is 👍.

Pablo Mastroeni is really good at what he does. he needs to be talked about more when the ‘best coaches in MLS’ conversations happen. energy and vibes are a big part of the job, and he lacks neither of those. 👏🏽 #RSL

@MattDoyle76 I love stats but sometimes "feelings" are important too. I feel like prior coaches got more out of the talent they had to achieve their results. I usually felt that Berhalter teams still had more to give relative to their talent. Am I off?

I don’t think he was able to change the way the world views US soccer, but I don’t fault him for his ambition. We were harder to break down than any prior US team, which is obvious when you look at the goals against totals.

@sgevans It is too easy for soccer fans today to forget watching league after league fail in the USA. We are still only 20 or so years aways from MLS being on the edge of failure... and one of the clubs that came in 2005 did end up folding.

Some of the anti-MLS crowd should meet some friends of mine who played pro soccer in the years just before MLS was created. Playing indoor was the best option for most. A few got a year or two playing for peanuts in Eastern Europe. And these were All-Americans in college.

@JacksonOnRadio For added information, @realsaltlake launched with a loose affiliation with Real Madrid which was, unfortunately, short lived. Madrid had a change in leadership & this affiliation wasn't carried forward. Dave Checketts had quite a bit of interaction with Madrid during the launch.
