My friend in the exotic automotive space just sent me this regarding the Ferrari Luce and Mercedes GT: “I was chatting with some Mercedes people at their event last week and journalists about why manufacturers keep dropping these electric cars that nobody asked for — and it actually makes a lot of sense once you hear it. The EU has this rule where every car brand’s ENTIRE lineup has to average below a certain emissions number. Not per car — the whole fleet. And if they miss it, they get fined like €95 for every single gram they’re over, multiplied by every car they sold that year. We’re talking hundreds of millions. So every EV they sell pulls that average down. Which means they can keep making the V8s and AMGs and ICE cars we actually love without getting destroyed by regulators. So that MB electric GT 4-Door and the Ferrari Luce? Those aren’t passion projects. That’s compliance math. The irony is those EVs you hate might literally be the reason your favorite ICE cars still exist. Mind-bending but that’s the game right now.”

As a potential car buyer in 2026: - Petrol? Enjoy increasing levels of ethanol blending and mileage drops. - Diesel? Treated like a public enemy. - EV? Hope your use case matches the infrastructure. At this point buying a car feels less the joyful decision it should be and more like a policy guessing game. Guess who’s sticking around with his decade old diesel?

Very bummed watchOS is having a maintenance year. They’ve been very slow to build on the watch, so much so I feel like we’ve hit the “iPad point” with it where folks keep them way longer than they should bc they can’t find a reason to upgrade. I still see Series 3s.

Jeff, India offers a useful model. Less than 4% of Indians pay income tax, agricultural income is exempt for 60% of Indians & incomes up to $7,500 effectively pay zero tax under rebates. Ours is the world’s most progressive tax system, protecting the less affluent while widening opportunity. @nsitharaman

THIS GUY TURNED AN OLD SMARTWATCH INTO A DIGITAL SHIFT KNOB FOR HIS 2001 AUDI AND THEN MADE IT EVEN CRAZIER instead of throwing away an old TicWatch, he 3D printed a custom housing and mounted it on his gear stick he vibe coded a custom WearOS app that uses the watch's built in accelerometer and gyroscope to read the physical angle of the shift stick and display which gear you're in the hardest part was driving on hills. going uphill would throw off the angle readings and show random gears. he had to build dynamic calibration into the algorithm so it could adjust in real time his car is a 2001 audi B5. the old communication protocol is so limited for gear data that building his own accelerometer app was actually easier than pulling from the car's computer then he went further he vibe coded an invisible touch spotify controller into the same shift knob swipe up on the knob to skip a track. swipe down to go back. tap to pause. all using the watch's touch screen while your hand is already on the shifter no extra buttons, no phone mount, no looking away from the road. your hand is on the shift knob anyway so the controls are right where you need them the watch also shows whatever is playing via bluetooth between gear changes 3D printed the enclosure, vibe coded the app, and turned e-waste into the coolest car mod on the internet
