@RightSide_Uk We had the pleasure of meeting @Gez56 the owner of the Thomas Paine hotel. We turned up without notice on the few occasions he was at the hotel. He generously gave my American guests an impromptu tour of the hotel and told us the story of Thomas Paine.

Thomas Paine Hotel in Thetford refused to take a single illegal migrant. The owners stood firm and said no to the taxpayer-funded migrant gravy train. It’s a beautiful, traditional British hotel — and it deserves all the support it can get. Well done to them for putting British people first. Give them your business. 🇬🇧

This man understands the bitter and protocolic exclusion from public life which befalls anyone who diagnoses Britain’s issues correctly: “There are people of genuine principle & genuine talent in this country …. They have been systematically excluded from Positions of power, influence and professional advancement for ideological reasons.. …We have enormous human capital here, we are just not permitted to release it…. If you don’t have the right views, you don’t get the job”

It was during this 1990 appearance on the BBC’s ‘Wogan’ to promote his film "Wild at Heart", that we learned every ounce of cocaine may also contain traces of Nicolas Cage.

The very weird 1978 BBC play ‘Stargazy On Zummerdown’ has turned up on YouTube. I recognised the title and remember my parents the next morning saying what a load of cobblers it was. And they were right, but it is fascinatingly cobblers. A post-apocalypse Britain where the survivors include Peggy Mount, Toni Arthur, Ron Pember and Le Clerc from Allo Allo. Being 1978, this future involves a lot of collective bargaining. They still have a lot of tech, which is cute and different. As ever, grammar is the first casualty of Armageddon, so everyone’s very rustic and they’ve got lines like ‘Bless me blimey-o, you’m best now reboot them microprocessor afore ye muck out he’s cow shed’. It’s that kind of affair. Being a top drawer BBC thing of the 70s, it comes with a stock political lecture thrown in near the end. Lectures were confined to that slot back then. Still, he’s be worth a looking on your viddyscreens, me auld mangelwurzels. I’ll pop the link down below -

Though smaller than last year, the Unite the Kingdom march over the weekend was still sickening. The resurgence of out-and-out racism in the UK, from demands for remigration of British Asians to Antisemitic slurs on placards at both demonstrations, demands we meet this moment.

@CapelLofft @bookclubpodhq You think Bleak House, Madame Bovary, War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Jane Eyre, Middlemarch, etc. are "Guardianista" tastes? You think that when *Nabokov* named Ulysses and A la recherche as two of his favourite novels of the 20th century, he was being a Guardianista?

The Guardian's much-debated list of the greatest novels is ... a perfectly good and sensible list. The people whining about it can't have read the books. But don't worry. We'll cover them all on @bookclubpodhq eventually.
