@orb_3d TL;DR is that AI ultimately is a tool, and many of its perceived downsides are due to how poorly people use it - and that's a constant with any new or previous tech.

Yeah, it does amplify the trend-seeking behavior since AI as we know it is nothing more than a sophisticated probability machine. But in the end people still have agency and it's their job to choose a good name, someone lazy enough to choose a poor LLM suggestion as a name to their product would probably settle for a shitty name anyway, with or without AI. Problem is that AI dev should be more focused on tooling and be less about one click, hands off stuff since people just cut corners and go for the easy route.

I’ve noticed this weird trend in indie games where everything is called something-“bound” or something-“born.” There are so many of them that I’m starting to wonder if chatGPT has been naming half the indie games coming out lol.

@henningsanden @AnityEx Can confirm Substance Painter works fine for the most part on Steam, but it can't bake using GPU (at least it couldn't on Linux Mint around February when I tested it) - reason why I'm on Windows 11 right now.

Even though Linux is used extensively in VFX and I've used it daily for years, it's still terrible for 3D: It's missing Photoshop, Substance Painter and ZBrush, and loads more. The annoyances of Windows or Mac are tiny compared to the disadvantages of Linux for creatives.

Rework of a quite old work. It's Kirenna, Sea Mage of Veruna, one of the four monarchs of Total Annihilation: Kigdoms, an old RTS from the late 90s. Design wise, I kept the general original armor looks from the game, but added an ancient greek twist. This was really fun, might get back to redoing the other monarchs (and actually finishing the one I left on WIP limbo!) Entirely done in Blender and Substance 3D Painter. #b3d #Blender3D #TotalAnnihilationKingdoms Via @artstationhq artstation.com/artwork/lGb6NG

While I agree it would be nicer to have native solutions to those issues, Blender core issues are not that many. There are 3 (possibly 4) addons that are essential to my workflow, all the rest are nice and can be helpful, but if they stopped existing it wouldn't matter much in the grand scheme of things. They also don't break when there's an update, I think I had an issue once and I've been using Blender for 12 years. That said, get UVpackmaster!

This started as a blueprint course from @DruidMechanics. Then I decided to swap the course character with one I created a while back. Then I made custom animations, then started fiddling with how it felt in engine...and ended up with a full locomotion demo. This is the result (still WIP!): #gamedev #UnrealEngine5
