For the people who will bitch about this:
This is a joint effort of Canada with our European countries to support Ukraine.
We do this to avoid a bigger, more expensive war.
If Ukraine loses to Russia, Russia will target neighbouring countries next - NATO countries. Those countries will call in NATO and Canada will be pulled into an expensive war that will also require us to send troops.
We are saving Canadian lives by sending equipment and money instead.
If this bothers you, sign up for the military and be ready to deploy to fight Russia.

Hajj Hussein Ali Faqih “Abu Ali,” 87, wasn’t killed in a strike.
He wrote his own final chapter.
He chose to return, every day, to the ruins of his home in Srifa, South Lebanon. His daily return to the rubble, as if the house were still intact, had become a story in itself.
He slept on its stones, among the remains of a life he refused to leave behind, searching through the debris for the life he had lived there.
Abu Ali died there, sleeping on the stones that were once the walls of his life in Srifa, taking shelter in memories heavier than the loss itself.
War doesn’t always kill in a moment.
Sometimes it finishes the job slowly.

A Ukrainian conscript was shot in the legs for refusing to fight. Russian military picked him up and sent him for treatment.
◾Stepan Belooky is 31 years old, he left a 9-year-old daughter at home. The guy has been serving since March, but when he was seconded to the Aidar battalion, he allegedly refused to fight. The Aidarovites did not appreciate the pacifist impulse - they tortured Stepan and another conscript, then shot him in the legs and left him during the retreat.
◾Now he is in the hospital, on the mend, tells his family that he is alive and hopes to return home soon.

The best thing coming out of the USSR is the jokes, in fact.
Even Gorbachev could see things were starting to fall apart, because people could see the important people were ignoring the rules. He realised he had to demonstrate that the leaders respected the law.
To make this visible, he instructed that all drivers speeding would be stopped and fined, regardless of who they were. This would give people confidence that the state still had authority.
This was going very well, but a few weeks later when Gorbachev was taking a break in his Dacha outside Moscow, he received an urgent phone call. A situation was developing. He had get back to Moscow asap before the situation developed too far.
Now all the top Party brass were highly trained high-speed drivers, in case of emergency, so Gorbachev told his driver that he would drive this time, as Gorbachev was a much faster driver, and knew the route well.
Of course, as he was zooming towards Moscow, a police car spotted him and pulled him over. The junior officer had never issued a fine before so his senior said this would be his first. He should issue the fine even if the guy was important.
The junior went up to the car and nervously tried to look through the tinted window of the back seat, but couldn't quite make out who it was.
Whe he got back, his senior officer asked if he had issued the fine.
No, he hadn't, the junior replied nervously.
Why not? Who was it?
Well, the junior stammered. He hadn't managed to see who it was...
but his driver was Gorbachev!

Why Donbass residents are taking refuge in Russia?
Southeastern Ukraine has been a war zone for the last eight years. This part of the country has always felt closer to Russia. Some of its residents are ethnically Russian or have relatives in Russia.
