@AfootEastbourne In Eastbourne it’s East Sussex County Council who look after our pavements as they are the local Highways Authority. It’s not Eastbourne Borough Council.

apple.news/AVcKZmDo5Qoy1n… E scooters could be used on roads and cycle lanes. Simply put if Eastbourne Council continues to expand its cycle network on pavements and calls these cycle routes, e scooters will be allowed to use these spaces.

From today’s Eastbourne Herald. @EastbourneBC Need to get a grip of these.@Seaofchangefilm A friend of ours was a victim when she was quietly walking out of her own driveway and traumatised by a ‘hit and run’ cyclist – this dear lady’s health has suffered ever since.

These two didn’t have a clue about which is pavement and which is bus lane. Or is it a bus lane .. @EastSussexCC confirmed it as shared space. In shared space we all share the same surface. What are the rules in this area?@Seaofchangefilm

Facts are segregated paths offer greater safety for pedestrians and less stress for cyclists.

Segregated paths are undoubtedly the safest paths when considering shared spaces.

@BespokeEB @Chris_Boardman Where measured correctly cyclist on pedestrian accidents are increasing but not all areas report these accidents hence the low stats.

How hysteria & bias against 🚴‍♀️ works. People notice 🚴‍♀️through a 🚦red light, whereas speeding which 80% drivers admit to is ignored, despite immeasurably greater danger. @Chris_Boardman "36 people killed on pavements by 🚗🚌🚚 p.a. but 1 every 3 years from a 🚴‍♀️"

@AfootEastbourne Do you have a source for this claim? All Police Forces in the UK capture this information in the standard STATS19 form.

Many police forces do not officially capture accident stats between pedestrians and cyclists those that do are seeing an ever increasing rate of accidents. Eastbourne does not need this risk on our seafront and harbour walkways. Safe walking and safe cycling.

As we head towards local elections let’s remember this one sided approach to safe walking and safe cycling in Eastbourne. The elimination of safe space on our promenades for children, disabled people, older people, pedestrians in favour of a minority group of cyclists.

@johnstevenson_x @cotnm The location of the collision is recorded in STATS19. When we looked at Eastbourne, there were 0 collisions in 2017 between pedestrians and cyclists on the pavement, but there was a collision between a pedestrian and mobility scooter.

@AfootEastbourne @EastbourneBC That may have been true 10 years ago, but many modern vehicles are designed for stop start. If those drivers with a suitable vehicle enabled stop start, it would help improve the town’s air quality.

@EastbourneBC Shirt start stop is as bad as idling. Common sense needs to prevail. Who is monitoring this and is it standard across the U.K.

Our Neighbourhood First team were busy yesterday placing some anti-idling signs on roads in #Eastbourne to encourage drivers to help reduce air pollution! Did you know that every minute your vehicle idles you could fill 150 balloons with harmful chemicals?

Myth 4 - Pedestrians on verge/footway are at danger from cycles. Latest data shows for that year [ 2016] no deaths involved cyclists but 43 with motor vehicles. For verge/footway no pedestrian deaths with cycles in any of 2007,9,11,12,13,15 or 16

@davidwnorth @AfootEastbourne @BespokeEB The most recent published data from the DfT is for 2017. There were NO cyclist / pedestrian collisions on #Eastbourne's pavements that year. The only pavement collision was between a 69 year old pedestrian and a mobility scooterist. The pedestrian received hospital treatment.

@3astbourne @AfootEastbourne @BespokeEB Stat 5 years out of date. The problem with cyclists on pavements etc has increased considerably in recent years. How anyone can be in denial about this situation amazes me.

@AfootEastbourne @BespokeEB Thats ok then no deaths. What about injuries to pedestrians caused by cycles on footways? Idiotic comment to say its a myth that pedestrians not in danger here.

This @EastbourneBC is an absolute disgrace. This will funnel speeding cyclists into the narrowest part of the prom. Pedestrian safety, already under pressure, will be further eroded, This is a shameful capitulation to a very vocal, very small minority.
Afoot@AfootEastbourne

Lib Dem’s expect to pay a min 240k to straighten the prom to allow faster cycling plus maybe more. Why is this not going directly into repairing our pavements. Trips and falls this year are awful. Safe Walking?

A cycle is a two wheeled mono tracked vehicle. Vehicles should not pass close to open stairways, stairwells and entrances. Ashford Road is a disaster in the making and is potentially illegal as a shared space.

@GaryJk64 @AfootEastbourne The data doesn’t back your opinion up. It’s motorists injuring pedestrians on Eastbourne’s pavements, and if a car hits you it will do a lot more damage. We don’t have any shared space in Eastbourne, though there are some shared paths pedestrians can use as well a bicycles.

@3astbourne @AfootEastbourne It is people who ride bicycles that cause problems, not all of them but too many. eastbourne has shared space and shared space is extremely dangerous for pedestrians. That is fact. No problem with sensible cycling at all but people and vehicles should not share space. That simple

@GaryJk64 @AfootEastbourne It’s not people who use bicycles that are the problem in #Eastbourne. Riding a bicycle can help prevent many conditions that can lead to disability and should be encouraged.
