By 1957, Tunisia was a monarchy ruled by a weak and unpopular dynasty for 252 years. I think it could have gradually evolved into a constitutional monarchy if that regime wasn't toppled and replaced by a republic.

@LaiciteStan That could be true for you since you guys had a lot of isolated ppl that didn't speak/read arabic.but in Tunisia this never happened, Iraq(Saddam) did send Arabic school books and that was it.

I WAS MADE to learn Arabic. You were not, you literally invented modern standard Arabic, and post-colonial Maghrebi governments invited Levantine/Egyptian Arabic teachers to Arabise schools. And Maronite Cypriots who live in CYPRUS since the 7-10TH CENTURY speak... Cypriot ARABIC
Fune 🇱🇧@FitFune

@LaiciteStan I was made to learn arabic. Do you also want to erase my identity and force me to be an arab? You speak of tolerance? Where was that when you banned the teaching of my language? oh, that was an older regime you can't be responsible for? But you do the same. Stay away please thx.

@JamesClips22 @kezLFC96 @mish_aderr berber was never spoken in Tunisia pre islamic times , it was african latin and neo punic . this is why tunisian arabic dialect is unique in the region.

@kezLFC96 @mish_aderr I gave you one example, you sound ridiculous. Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco’s languages were replaced from Berber languages to Arabic. Egypt was Coptic, replaced by Arabic. Mauritania and Sudan spoke several languages before Arab colonialism.

You’re sprinting away from your own logic because it trapped you. First, let’s set the record straight. Husayn ibn Ali al-Turki (founder of the dynasty) was the son of Ali al-Turki, a Janissary from Crete. Being born in El Kef doesn’t magically erase his membership in the Ottoman military caste. The Husainids were a Mamluk-Turkish elite who ruled over a local population. They spoke Turkish in the palace, married into the Turkish-Caucasian Mamluk circles (like the famously Greek Mustapha Khaznadar), and identified as Ottoman subjects until the very end. Secondly, your 'local stock' argument is a joke. If having a local mother makes a dynasty 'indigenous,' then the Alaouites who have been in Morocco for over 750 years (arriving in the 1200s) and have intermarried with Berber and local Arab tribes for 22 generations are more 'local' than the Husainids could ever dream of being. You can't claim a Cretan's son is 'local' after one generation while calling a 700-year-old Moroccan lineage 'foreign.' Finally, the 1675 'massacre' you cited wasn't a national liberation; it was a civil war between two Ottoman factions: the Muradid Beys and the Turkish Diwan. It was an internal power struggle between Janissaries and the Beylicate, not a 'Tunisian revolution' against the Ottomans. You’re trying to invent a 2,500-year continuous sovereignty that didn't exist. Tunisia was a brilliant, autonomous Ottoman Regency, but it was ruled by a Turkish-descended elite that looked to Istanbul, not Carthage, for its legitimacy.

France did not create Morocco (but did define its borders). We can debate whether Algeria or Tunisia pre-existed French colonization. The states of the Sahel west of Sudan are 100% French inventions, although there were pre-existing polities that got absorbed by what the French made. Sudan itself is British-made.

@Veil__Pierced @MichaelShurkin @sd1491117232659 Bro..😂, the dynasty literally eliminated all turkish interference in the nation with the sublime port even wanting its dissolution in 1717(he told them to f**ck off). the 1675 battle was battle between the local ruling party and turkish one not "an internal ottoman battle".1/2

@3karkadan @MichaelShurkin @sd1491117232659 You are all over the place, buddy. You claim Hussein Bey as Tunisian due to being born in Tunis, yet distance the Alaouites as foreignors despite having been in morocco for centuries before their ascension to the throne.

@Veil__Pierced @MichaelShurkin @sd1491117232659 Tunisia had its own constitution , flag , currency and foreign relationships. within the roman empire Tunisia was a senatorial province : producing emperors , senators and theologians. your country morocco has an arab king despite being the least Arab🇸🇦🇸🇦 in the region.

The Husaynids were Turks from the Greek island of Crete. I love the confidence it takes to be this aggressively incorrect. 😭The Beys were historically proud of their Ottoman roots, there was no Janissary massacre in 1675, and Tunisia was part of the Roman and Ottoman empires for centuries. Take a breath and actually study the history of the Husaynids. It's embarrassing. 💅🏽

@Veil__Pierced @MichaelShurkin @sd1491117232659 husein bey was a tunisian from kef , born in kef to tribal arab mother and a cretan father. the husseinide family literally arabized the country and appoined locals in administrative positions. koulouglhi massacre of tunis is widely documented. twitter.com/Tunisianesque/…

@MichaelShurkin @sd1491117232659 Algiers and Tunis were autonomous ottoman regencies that elected governors. Still ruled by the Jannissaries class, but very independent concerning domestic and foreign policy.
