Dad to 3 amazing children. Low carbon energy consultant, optimistic for the future but irritated by greenwash. Could have achieved more probably...

@Mike_Fabricant When we need it most is immediately, for a few months New licences will not help in any way, nor will it help much at all in any timeframe. It’s lazy populist nonsense. North Sea is ~ dry. Security will come from renewables grid upgrades, demand management and interconnection

@LBC @IainDale @KemiBadenoch Are you stupid or do you think we are? Nonsensical to suggest that the dwindling North Sea can make any short term difference to energy prices, and barely any in the long term. Embarrassing

@KemiBadenoch @grahamstuart @Conservatives This will benefit people with bigger houses more. At a time when we are already vastly overstretched it’s right to target this who need help the most. But you stuck up for your rich mates 🙄

Labour want an energy bailout for Benefits Street, paid for by working people. The @Conservatives want to get drilling our own oil and gas, scrap Ed Miliband’s green taxes, and abolish VAT on energy bills. This would save EVERYONE £200 and get Britain working again.

@JamesMelville @Mike_Fabricant Carbon capture is a stupid waste of time, agreed. Solar energy is a massive win though. And the land used is dwarfed by golf courses! More generally not doing net zero will cost more than pursuing it. Climate change presents by far the biggest risk to agriculture as well.

“Let’s spend £4.5 trillion on net zero over the next 25 years. Let’s increase taxes to pay for net zero. Let’s ban new oil and gas licences in the North Sea but spaff away £40billion buying North Sea oil and gas from Norway. Let’s buy coking coal shipments worth £7.2million from Japan but ban UK coal mining. Let’s plaster thousands of acres of farmland with solar panels but spend £50million on sun dimming experiments. Let’s give huge renewable energy construction contracts to China. Lets fail to improve gas storage facilities, Let’s give Drax an estimated £1.8billlion in taxpayer funded subsidies on top of the £11billion it has already received despite Drax burning an amount of wood equivalent to 300 million trees. Let’s give £1billion this year alone to wind power companies not to generate power from their wind turbines. And let’s spend £30billion of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines but put pensioners, farmers and the disabled into financial peril by claiming there’s a £22bn black hole.”

@7Kiwi The crisis will only pass at all if we (humanity) do a whole lot more to move away from fossils fuels. People like Sharma who understood the issue and acted on it will deserve praise Those still in denial, not so much.

Once the crisis has passed, we need a special commission to remove peerages and knighthoods from those who took pride in the destruction of the nation.
Rt Hon Lord Alok Sharma@AlokSharma_RDG

The demolition @SSE⁩’s Ferrybridge coal power plant today was a symbolic moment for me It demonstrates that change is possible But to limit global temperature rises and keep 1.5C within reach, the whole world needs to plan to consign coal power to history #COP26

@LoftusSteve @grahamstuart If licensing to production takes that long, we should clearly ignore, and indeed laugh at those who claim that licensing Rosebank and Jackdaw are any sort of solution to the current crisis? Right?

Let me explain all the ways this is garbage. 1. From licensing to production take 10-15 years. The article says 2010-2024, but only a fraction of them are active. 2. Uplift, the people behind it, are a anti fossil fuel campaign group. 3. The article says "only 6 months". Six months of UK gas is an enormous amount of gas. About 40 billion cubic metres. 4. The vast majority of the fields are predominantly oil, with gas as a by product. The article ignore the oil production completely. 5. While the fields may not lower bills it brings in valuable tax revenue, creates jobs and helps considerably with the balance of payments. 6. It's The Guardian.
Caroline Lucas@CarolineLucas

Hundreds of licences granted for new North Sea oil & gas projects under the Tories have so far produced just 36 days’ worth of gas. Yet more evidence that a crisis caused by fossil fuel dependence can’t be solved by drilling for more fossil fuels in N Sea theguardian.com/business/2026/…

@Goog1965 @Sheff36 @Ed_Miliband Why are you making this about me? I don’t work for free, no, who does?! But like many people I work in a job which I think worthwhile. Don’t see this as especially unusual or bad 🤷🏻‍♂️

1/ The affordability crisis is the number one issue families are facing. That’s why we’re doubling down on our mission for clean power. To give families energy security and lower bills for good. Here’s what we’ve been up to this week👇

@Goog1965 @Sheff36 @Ed_Miliband Just meant I’m no Delia just a random guy. But I do know about it Want legal advice? ask a lawyer. Ill? See a doctor. Want to know more about the (complicated, highly technical) energy transition than glib simplistic soundbites? Ask someone who does it for a living. Or don’t 🙄

@Goog1965 @Sheff36 @Ed_Miliband You think I work in it for the money? No🤣 I’m just a foot soldier. It’s not “biased” to be informed. I have learned and know a lot about it, unlike 99% of commenters on social media. Wish I would learn not to engage with deniers though 🙄

@3wayboy @Sheff36 @Ed_Miliband It matters to you financially hence why you feed the monster. Cakes are great and Delia bakes a great one. Are you likening yourself to the Delia of renewables? How arrogant of you.

@Goog1965 @Sheff36 @Ed_Miliband Weird take. It’s something that matters a lot to me, hence I do it all day everyday, and so is something I now know a lot about. Not “bias” 🤷‍♂️ Like saying you don’t believe what Delia Smith says about making cakes because she’s “biased” by being a cook. 😆

@ClaireCoutinho Ridiculous to imply that if we dig up some oil or gas here then an equivalent amount will magically be left in the ground elsewhere It’s AND not OR and emissions will rise. It may or may not be the right thing to do for other reasons but don’t pretend it’s environmental ones🤦‍♂️

This is what people hate about Net Zero fanatics. They would rather hit made-up targets, even if it makes actual climate change worse. Using dirtier imports rather than using our own is bad for our economy and it’s bad for the environment. We need to get back to common sense.

@ClaireCoutinho It will take years - the problem is now. It will also be a tiny amount, sold on international markets. Your response to the crisis caused by our reliance on fossil fuels - “we need more fossil fuels” - is as stupid as a heroin addict solving their problem with another hit 🤡

Labour just voted to block North Sea drilling during an energy crisis. Turning down more domestic supply and £25 BILLION in extra tax revenue. That means more taxes on ordinary people instead. Economically illiterate doesn't even begin to cover it.

Labour MP texts in after PLP meeting to praise Ed Miliband’s “strong performance” “Ed made a very clear point that the public are more ambitious than many in Westminster think. The room were with him on not dashing for gas in north sea. He was very clear that it would do nothing to bills”

Miliband is simply repeating what the green lobby feeds him. Labour MPs would be fools to take it at face value. The public does not understand what Net Zero entails or what it means for the cost of living. They like the idea of it, much as they like the idea of world peace or disarmament. But they do not like the consequences: higher energy costs and lower living standards.
