I thanked Emmanuel for his principled condemnation of Russian strikes on our cities and communities. These attacks make very clear what Russia is and why we all need to strengthen our collective defense against all threats. France is ready to work on anti-ballistic capabilities. This is a strong decision and an important step. We also discussed boosting our ability to repel Russian attacks right now. Thank you for the readiness to reinforce our air defense. We also spoke about the European track and the opening of all negotiation clusters in the near future. France supports Ukraine and understands how important this step is for all Ukrainians. The fact that some drones over Moscow can make these turns without being impeded speaks volumes. More than 300 drones were used for the operation against targets in Moscow, Russia, and they have likely overwhelmed in some areas the Russian air defense.

Ukrainian attack drone involved in this morning’s massive raid on Russia’s capital, sporting the text “Moscow never sleeps.”

This week, the Russians launched more than 3,170 attack drones, over 1,300 guided aerial bombs, and 74 missiles of various types, most of them ballistic, against Ukraine. There were many hits on residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, 52 people were killed as a result of attacks this week. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 346 people were affected and injured, including 22 children. Our people need more protection, and everything that supports Ukraine’s air defense ultimately helps save lives. That is why the PURL initiative and additional contributions for anti-ballistic missiles are critical. And it is equally important to work in Europe on joint protection against ballistic missiles. We must be self-sufficient in defense so that Russian aerial terror cannot threaten Ukraine or any other country on the continent.
