I was having a conversation with some non farm friends about water.
I told them, watch the governments shut every pivot off in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and watch overall consumption and depletion actually increase because industry will have it handed to them on a silver platter by the state governments.
It was never about water usage and what it’s used on. It’s about who is using it and the fact the states have very little control over it. They also don’t profit from it as much as if it was being ran through a factory or AI data center.

@591actual My breaking point was last year, we always grazed some, and I still tried to irrigate some and raise some dryland grain…
running a stripper header over sub 10 bushel hailed out crap wheat that was worth $3-4 cash…
And cattle rallied big time.
I just quit trying.

I remember wheat being an almost sure thing when I was a kid. At least to grow bushels.
We are working on year six of “if it doesn’t rain like 2” and soon, we can just not plan on running this one through a machine”.

@JerodMcDaniel I couldn’t make the math work unless I owned the cattle and cost of entry was too high for me to bear last fall.
As far as the big farm, those acres aren’t my call. Just do what I’m told.
