@beardycanuck03 @Adamkblat @kevole Having two 2nds is not extra. The Canucks need multiple 1st and 2nds for a few draft cycles at minimum. If we get to 2028 draft and the Canucks have two 1sts and three or four 2nds and have already made 8 picks in first two rounds in 26&27 then sure you have an extra 2nd to trade
English

@5andagame_ @Adamkblat @kevole Canucks do have an extra 2nd in 2028 already... Maybe that's the pick they are looking at...
English

@beardycanuck03 @Adamkblat @kevole At this point in time it’s very likely to be a bad idea. If a few years is when this becomes a valid idea. The Canucks need desperately to be making a crap ton of picks over the next few drafts. The don’t have nearly enough picks made or upcoming to be even thinking about trading
English

@5andagame_ @Adamkblat @kevole I'm not suggesting they trade away any and all extra picks, but that it isn't as bad an idea as some think. Every move needs to be smart and calculated.
English

@Adamkblat @beardycanuck03 @kevole The rebuild has been on for less than one (1) calendar year. Trading away picks this early would be silly. Getting as many 18 year olds in the org through at least next draft cycle is the way to go. Unless there’s a no doubt 20-21 year old stud available in trade. Doubtful that
English

@beardycanuck03 @kevole If you want them to keep doing the same thing they have for a decade and hope it finally works, thats fine. Just don't act like someone suggesting the team actually rebuilds properly is narrow minded.
English

@CanucksArmy They should be loading up Abby to have another deep run. Look at what that did for those guys development in the 2025 run.

@PeteBlackburn Have we considered the hockey gods won’t allow playoff hockey to be played in a place called “little ceasars arena”. Better name for their arena and I bet they woulda already made the playoffs twice and then again this year
English

@DonnieandDhali @DonTaylor5 @DhaliwalSports @RJHenderson7 Ryan and Rick are correct here. QH most certainly could have done better as captain, but the reality is the Canucks have been a completely dysfunctional franchise for a long time. Losing + drama = players wanting out. To say Hughes quit is a bit of an over reaction imo
English

"It's not like he got here 2 years ago and said get me out, he was here 8 years!.."

Brock Boeser completes the hat-trick with a high difficulty 160 footer into an empty Avalanche cage.
#Canucks are going to do the thing. It's 8-6 Vancouver in the mile high city.
English

@SportsnetSpec @ThomasDrance @the_habitant The thing is when he “earns it” it’ll be a lot more than 8-9M aav. Let’s say he does a 3 year 3.5 bridge deal and over the next 4 seasons he has multiple 60+ point seasons. That next contract will be 12+ aav. Oilers made this mistake with Bouchard (and kinda nurse)
English

@ThomasDrance @the_habitant He is 20, and has 5 career NHL goals.
Handing him a $60 million deal is the recipe for ruining a young player.
He'll be much, much better off when/if he earns it.
English

If Zeev Buium gets paid more than Lane Hutson, quite literally just one year after Lane signed his contract, somebody in Vancouver will need to be fired lmao
NHL Rumour Report@NHLRumourReport
Rick Dhaliwal: On the Canucks to-do list this summer will be getting an extension done with Zeev Buium, I see a lot of people thinking...8 years and $8 million per; if it's an 8 year deal I can see it being $9m plus - Donnie & Dhali (3/24)
English

@AdamWylde Surely it’s his last GM job. How do you get fired before either of the two first round picks you traded away even get made. Maybe the worst trade deadline a GM has ever had, two disaster class trades like an hour apart
English

WOW.
Well tonight's stream just got more interesting

@JFreshHockey @wyshynski @ctagh55 If they just change the “his team” to “a team” a lot more people would get the point of this award. I’m not old enough to remember 06 but I’d imagine the discourse around Thornton was hilarious. “His” team is theoretically any team. MVP=Best player. Best player adds most value
English

@wyshynski @ctagh55 because there are a ton of different ways to interpret "most valuable to his team" aside from "got a bunch more points than his teammates," but people seem fixated on that version
English

Since there's more Hart Trophy discourse, bumping this article.
The Hart Trophy is for the best player in the league that season.
All the hand-wringing over "most valuable to his team" is 1. dumb and 2. makes the award debate dumb

@davidalter @JasonGregor Islanders are OT/SO merchants citing their total wins without mentioning on 25 have come in regulation is a bit misleading. Islanders are benefiting from the point system. WSH/OTT are better cases for getting screwed by point system. They each have 30 regulation wins
English

@JasonGregor Yeah it’s more about the Islanders part than it is about the 1-16. Islanders with as many wins as they have and where they are is a direct product of the points system, which is only in the NHL.
English

@davidalter No league does a 1-16 so why “only in NHL.” Makes no sense to make that claim.

@ThomasDrance I have a working theory the Canucks play worse the more they practice
English

Unless the #Canucks can bring some effort and mix in a heavy shift or two in the third period, this could well end up as the most territorially lopsided game played by *any* NHL team this season.
It's trending in that direction.
English

@ThomasDrance @EastVan808 I think firing Foote is the move btw. Bc this team has clearly lacked confidence in what they’re doing. They’re doing the wrong this *and* don’t look confident doing them. I also don’t think there’s a single U23 player that looks better now than October.
English

@ThomasDrance @EastVan808 Swap out the word structure for confidence and I think your bang on. A rebuilding last place team needs confidence rather than floor raising structure. It may very well be impossible for a team that will be incredibly young to have structure regardless of who’s coaching
English

Are you happy with the development of D-Petey, Willander, Buium, Karlsson, Ohgren, Sasson, etc (even Cootes when he was here)?
If the answer is yes, Foote has done his job.
Nothing is more important than the development of players transitioning to the NHL.
Not the production of your highest paid players, not "structure" (there hasn't been a structured 32nd place team in NHL history BTW. Apparently some people don't realize this). Absolutely nothing.
The only 2 things that matter for a coach at the beginning of a rebuild are "how are your prospects developing" and "how are you developing culture within your room".
If Foote is hitting on both of those, there's absolutely no chance that he'll be replaced.
#Canucks
English

@FriedgeHNIC What’s the situation for extra time in the knockouts? 3v3 still? 5v5?
English

@Steve_Dangle Doubtful. Maybe if McMann and Roy had already scored I’d believe Laughton would do it. He’s the only guy here that can get a third
