@615infinity @Rainmaker1973 Usually the person is on a ventilator and cannot breathe without one, and is also considered brain dead, which is the same as just dead. The doctors also need to make sure that there is no possible/worthwhile recovery that can be made. There’s lots of laws around it.

Yes, they are horrible. The most terrifying place I ever accidentally ended up was Juarez. I was traveling with a friend, who decided to walk off from the main square, to experience the local culture. Despite several warnings from me that it was the murder capital of the world. Why did I go? I still don’t know. At some point on our walk, a man with several tear drop tattoos said on his cellphone, “There are gringos coming”. I had to drag my friend back to the border, who insisted I had denied them a cultural experience. The worst part was the line heading back from the Mexico to the USA. American citizens were forced to walk side by side like cattle. There were no other white people. When you walk over, you just put a coin into something like an amusement park entrance. It was not even slightly amusing. 😭
