We don't think "the one interface to AGI" should be closed-source-- or this JANKY. We make ChatGPTCodex build its replacement: the new OpenAgents desktop app! We add a QA harness preventing one category of bugs: ensuring that all recent Codex threads load in OpenAgents; and after being clicked, open in <50ms. Next we'll repeat that process to absorb all relevant UI from ChatGPTCodex and our previous Khala Code efforts. Is this our go-to-market opening? One piece of predictable software?

I think the OAI brand strategy can be explained as follows: Agentic work is where the $ is. (Anthropic famously bet early on coding/enterprise, it paid off, and OAI is aggressively playing catch up.) Until this week, agentic work = Codex. (Codex imo the best desktop app in the world.) Codex isn't yet a household name. OAI has to spend time and $ to educate the market about Codex (the market being all of knowledge workers). But OAI, the "accidental consumer company" does have a household name in ChatGPT. I view the move to unify Work & Codex under the ChatGPT banner as a giant play to grease distribution of agentic work to their consumer base (many of whom are of course knowledge workers). I get it, it's probably smart, but the tradeoff is it gives us the monstrosity "ChatGPT Codex". By contrast, keeping Codex as the dedicated brand for agentic work would be more elegant but would leave ChatGPT brand equity on the table.
