The Yankees scored five runs in the second inning, at one point getting hits on three straight Logan Webb changeups. It was a sloppy defensive inning for a Giants team that looked sharp on that side all spring.

@DrArtocarpus I don’t disagree, but I am excited for the future with Mickey! At some point Bennett deserves a banner in McKeon Pavillion for all he gave this program. But the one thing that Mick can say that Randy couldn’t was that Mick is a Gael, in his heart. Randy left this program full!

Saint Mary’s with Randy Bennett was a similar situation with the A’s and Billy Beane. Sure, both fared pretty poorly in the postseason, but could anyone else realistically get them any further? Unlikely. I like Mickey but not sure if fresh blood is enough.

I will also say: the timing feels right. Saint Mary's has plateaued recently and could use some fresh blood to get over that NCAAT hump. I still think Bennett could've gotten a better gig, but this is a comfortable, low-stakes job for the 63-year-old to ride into retirement.
