@ravitaxali Yes it is relevant. It’s demonstrating how types of stocks work in certain economic conditions and during a certain type of market sentiment. But maybe you haven’t studied investing in equities, don’t know the answer to that.

@67Dodge There is no point in looking at investment returns over a quarter when one is investing in an RRSP, which will run into decades. Post the account returns over the last 10 years.

Nice. My wife's Canadian RRSP over the last 3 months. She's in racing Green, the TSX in blue. Going up when markets go down. Canadian Wide Moat (defensives) plus oil and gas stocks. #Retirementclub

@Ranonssance @67Dodge @igetredpilled The problem is volatility in the short run. An all equity portfolio lost 34% in February/March 2020. In contrast, a traditional 60/40 portfolio lost 8.5 to 10%. Once a sell off begins... and it may just really be beginning, defensives don't help much and certainly will not lead when things tilt back higher. I prefer to raise cash because it is sitting there waiting when it is time to buy on the other side and defensives will not lead at that point.

@67Dodge My only point is that if we wind up in a selloff like we are in now, they will all be for sale. Cash is the preferred asset in a selloff. People sell what they can sell when fear hits markets.

Your U.S. ultra short term treasuries (cash) will pay more as inflation expectations rise. At times it can keep up with inflation, at other times, lag. But it does provide a 'hedge' ...
