@slimewizardalt @soobgoofyman I agree with this. Trying to figure out who is 'the real version' is overrated. The point is that Pearl's VA partipated in that anti-racist cartoon years ago. And now today, she follows a ton of bigoted right wing accounts. The actions are the thing worth discussing.

@soobgoofyman Tbf how do we know the bigoted her is the real her and not some kind of head injury or black mold incident?

@zabooti @akhivae The class is set up to teach a specific curriculum. It's great to be curious, but the students and teacher would be reasonably annoyed that people are eating up time to ask irrelevant questions. Maybe the teacher should say "Ask me in office hours".

@akhivae the teacher’s fault, used to love science and would ask quite thought provoking questions for my age that most probably went over the head of my teachers but i would get failing grades a lot. then i went to a private tutor who was actually a real physicist, A+s from then on

I had a friend who would interrupt the teacher to ask questions about wormholes and then fail the mid-term because he couldn't rearrange Ohm's Law for voltage. I haven't spoken to him since graduation, but I see his type all over Twitter.

Reminder that nurses are rotememorycels with no meaningful capacity to critically think, analyze, or solve problems. They have no fluid intelligence and passed college by last minute cramming quizlet flashcards hopped up on adderall.

@taystuck @credenzaclear2 Since you are a stranger, you haven't established what to talk about. So I think it's okay for conversation topics to change quickly and maybe be a bit awkward. You can always talk again later.

@credenzaclear2 For whatever reason I’m good with all this stuff but it’s the initial actually making contact and stepping in, introductions etc. knowing when to join a convo and not look awkward in a corner I struggle with. Thoughts? I know it’s partially just getting over myself.

no one talks about how exhausting and thankless it is covering for or smoothing over other people’s social awkwardness or low emotional intelligence.

@taystuck @credenzaclear2 At work, if there is a new person sitting by themselves and not looking at their phone or listening to music, I walk up and say "Hey! I'm so and so" and then usually reply back. I talk for at least one turn about work bc I like to talk and learn a single thing about then.

@taystuck @credenzaclear2 Making an effort to notice the positive reactions helps me feel more confident. You can jump in when there is a pause. You can look up "expected behavior training" videos for autistic people for very basic advice.

@taystuck @credenzaclear2 Sometimes you don't know if your presence is welcome until you talk to them and then get a reaction back. If you don't get a positive response after the first turn of the conversation, you can usually jump in or leave with few consequences.
