Pete Rose and Johnny Bench, 1971. Rose was 30 and already a two-time batting champion. Bench was 23 and already an MVP.

@MichaelVitaleJr If they get a lot of rebound seasons, I guess so. Ronald Acuna, Austin Reilly. Ozzie Albies, Michael Harris, Matt Olsen, Drake Baldwin, Sean Murphy is pretty solid

Mike Cuellar pitches a 1-2-3 inning against the Reds, retiring Pete Rose, Tony Perez, and Johnny Bench in Game 5 of the 1970 World Series - 10/15/70

@tedreednc Bringing on Soto limited other necessary moves they should have made, like bringing in better starting pitching and a decent CF. And this winter’s knee-jerk reaction to a bad season was to dump 3 of their best players & replace them with lesser talent - a head scratcher.

@70sBaseball I hated to see Alonso go but that is not on Soto, who is about to have a monster year. I hope our overrated GM made the right guesses on pitching this year and atones for his screwup last year. Otherwise he’s gone

@strach65 Yea from what I read Machado didn’t care for him as a teammate. Neither did Judge.

@vcavanguard He was productive, but the starting pitching they ignored to afford his contract did them in.

@TolleEnthusiast Even as a Mets fan I like your thinking. But let’s face it- McLean or Joe Ryan should be more than enough to beat vastly inferior Venezuela or Italy teams. And I think the bats are due for a big break-out.

Garrett Crochet was supposed to pitch for the Sox today but got scratched and replaced. Makes you wonder if they’re sending him to the WBC, because there’s no way McLean is starting the finals and I’m not even sure who else they have right now. That would be epic.

Soto, Tatís, Vladdy, Machado, J-Rod and other players from the Dominican Republic team left together, didn't speak to the media, and blasted "Panti Y Colale" from a speaker. They looked dissapointed, but held their heads up high. What a fun team.

@OleTimeHardball I’d give the ball to Gibson and get out of his way. Will save Koufax to close if needed

@OleTimeHardball Correct - Gehrig used to hit .360 w power so should always hit 3 or 4. Other notes - it’s getting to the point where Judge has to be in over Reggie. Also I’d like to see some speed and bat control at the top of Boston lineup. Nomar and Boggs 1-2 would be great table setters

Yankees, but the Red Sox lineup is surprisingly stacked Side note: In no world is Lou Gehrig batting 7th and David Ortiz slotted ahead of Jimmie Foxx
