If I make it to January 7, 2024, I will have 50 years as a reporter. If I make it to March 4, 2024, I will have 35 years covering airlines in an existing or future American Airlines hub. (Miami, Charlotte)

The @Mets should retire No. 8 in honor of BOTH @GaryCarterKid and Yogi Berra, and invite @lindsayberra to the ceremony. Yogi was an important part of the franchise for a decade.

@BNightengale That’s the whole issue. The players care, their countries care. But care more than Cubs fans cared in 2016? More than the guy who took the radio to his father’s gravestone?

You realize the impact of the WBC championship when Venezuela catcher Willson Contreras says winning the gold over USA was more meaningful to him than winning the 2016 World Series with the Chicago Cubs
Chris Cotillo@ChrisCotillo

Willson Contreras on the WBC: "I think it’s the best experience of my life. I played in the World Series in ‘16 and it was big but playing the WBC for your country, for 37 million people, means a lot more to me."

The idea of Venezuela being a "bad team" beating a "good team" is offensive. USA has been a limp fish with incredible players that simply failed. The commentary during the WBC has been borderline ethnicist.

Name the last time you saw a rookie pitcher come out in this type of environment against a very good team and hold them to 2 runs. Dude has a future. Trial by fire. The rest of the team however, look like they’re checked out, ready to get back to the hotel to play on their phones.

No disrespect to McLean, but remind me why exactly USA has a rookie pitching in the championship game?

@BMiggy @JaysonL56 He has 712 RBIs in seven seasons including 2022. 2025 wasn’t even his best RBI season.

@BMiggy The complete revisionist history around Alonso is hilarious. People wanted him out for all of 2024 and were "glad" he didn't sign the extension. Fans were like "we dodged a bullet". Then he hits that homerun in Milwaukee and everyone all of a sudden wanted him back

@SportsTalkATL The Super Bowl penalizes fans with its neutral site. It’s a $10k purchase including jacked up hotel rates. All the other sports have great atmosphere for game seven — even though it seems nutty to play hockey in the summer.

@70sBaseball I hated to see Alonso go but that is not on Soto, who is about to have a monster year. I hope our overrated GM made the right guesses on pitching this year and atones for his screwup last year. Otherwise he’s gone

@baseballinpix It is 69 years since they played their last season and yet here we are. Hard to deny that this was the greatest team in baseball history. The war ended, Robinson changed the world, a dozen newspapers covered them daily and they finally beat the Yankees. Then it was over.

In ST games, Mark Vientos is 1-for-25. Yesterday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told him, “You're on the team. You're not trying to make a team here.” For Mendoza, point was, they aren’t looking for results now. Mendoza tonight: “He’s going to be a big player for us.”

Team Italy around 1950 would have been essentially the starting Yankees lineup: DiMaggio, Rizzuto, Berra, Martin, Vic Raschi. We'll throw a couple of other DiMaggio brothers in there too. I would like that team's chances. Of course, the current version has fared just fine.
