@genethelawyer @MarkCHealey @Mets @GaryCarterKid @lindsayberra Honor the living not the dead. Cleon Jones number 21.
English

The @Mets should retire No. 8 in honor of BOTH @GaryCarterKid and Yogi Berra, and invite @lindsayberra to the ceremony. Yogi was an important part of the franchise for a decade.

@BNightengale That’s the whole issue. The players care, their countries care.
But care more than Cubs fans cared in 2016? More than the guy who took the radio to his father’s gravestone?

You realize the impact of the WBC championship when Venezuela catcher Willson Contreras says winning the gold over USA was more meaningful to him than winning the 2016 World Series with the Chicago Cubs
Chris Cotillo@ChrisCotillo
Willson Contreras on the WBC: "I think it’s the best experience of my life. I played in the World Series in ‘16 and it was big but playing the WBC for your country, for 37 million people, means a lot more to me."

@Hadas_Gold Our congested hubs.
Airports can’t build gates fast enough

@MarkCHealey True
At Columbia J we all wrote letters to 100 newspapers, looking for a job
Fortunately I got hired at @FresnoBee

As if this day couldn’t get any better; I’m proud to announce that I’ve been accepted to the M.A. in Journalism program for the Class of 2027 at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
I’m looking forward to the next chapter.
Wish me luck! #olddognewtricks

Nolan McLean's breaking pitchers are a tad insane so far tonight. #Mets
English

@BMiggy @JaysonL56 He has 712 RBIs in seven seasons including 2022.
2025 wasn’t even his best RBI season.
English

@tedreednc @JaysonL56 Most baserunners and pitches in the zone he’s ever seen thanks to Soto and he still left the fourth most runners on base in 2025
English

Horrid 1B defense, ops under 800 and a complete non entity for a team fighting for its life to make playoffs only on final day

Jacob Piccini@JacobPiccini
@BMiggy Never ever try to talk ball again if you think Pete Alonso’s 2024 regular season was “abysmal.”
English

@BMiggy The complete revisionist history around Alonso is hilarious. People wanted him out for all of 2024 and were "glad" he didn't sign the extension. Fans were like "we dodged a bullet". Then he hits that homerun in Milwaukee and everyone all of a sudden wanted him back

@SportsTalkATL The Super Bowl penalizes fans with its neutral site. It’s a $10k purchase including jacked up hotel rates.
All the other sports have great atmosphere for game seven — even though it seems nutty to play hockey in the summer.
English

Super Bowl might be the worst representation of fan atmosphere. There’s about 30% of actual fans in the building. It’s an enormous marketing event with the biggest football game of the year being played in the middle. It really sucks honestly
Jason Mackey@JMackey_PGH
I have not seen a sporting that’s this insane with fan passion. The Super Bowl included.

"I think the people that say it's bigger than the World Series never played in a World Series." 😂
– @derekjeter on the WBC
English

@70sBaseball I hated to see Alonso go but that is not on Soto, who is about to have a monster year.
I hope our overrated GM made the right guesses on pitching this year and atones for his screwup last year.
Otherwise he’s gone
English

THE reason the Mets went from an NLCS appearance to also-rans was believing it was a good idea to give this clown a billion dollars.
And then as a follow-up, cast away home grown, blood and guts,
hustling, thoughtful, humble team icons to ‘change the culture’.

"We showed the world who's the best team in baseball. That's all I got to say." - Juan Soto, after his Dominican Republic team lost to Team USA
English

@baseballinpix It is 69 years since they played their last season and yet here we are.
Hard to deny that this was the greatest team in baseball history.
The war ended, Robinson changed the world, a dozen newspapers covered them daily and they finally beat the Yankees.
Then it was over.

@WillSammon If Vientos succeeds, it will be because of Mendoza sticking by him
