@d0_6n @TimothyImholt Same. I saw the names of my two favorite authors and grabbed it. Read it and realized afterwards there were other books. I was exposed to Death Gate through a PC game! It's also where I learned that "Zifnab" and "Fizban" were the same dude...

I had that first, got it and was very confused since I didn’t read the books. Went back and read the trilogy eventually. Never heard of the 4th, might have to check it out soon. But I’d need to reread the trilogy because it’s been more than 30 years. As I recall I enjoyed it, but the Deathgate Cycle was better.

Another great four part series. The Darksword trilogy. Which now has 4 books. Mine are inscribed.

@TimothyImholt Back in 2010, my band Vulture King wrote and recorded a song called Death Dealer, specifically about that character, lyrics based on imagery from the books and their covers.

These four are some of the pride and joy books I have on my shelf. Had them forever. You can take them from my cold dead hands.

When Anton Corbijn first shot Joy Division, Ian Curtis #botd turned to face the lens. Following his tragic death in 1980, the photo - which was initially rejected everywhere - became the ultimate visual symbol of the entire post-punk era overnight. London, 1979.

No words are big enough right now to overcome this empty feeling in the stomach. We were close, really close to another final but it wasn’t enough. We’ve given everything over these last 7 weeks and to fall short is hard to take! I know the expectations are high and rightly so, we’ve been knocking on the door for 8 years now but again are missing that final piece of the jigsaw! That’s where we have to go away, process it and find a way to get better. I’m so proud of the boys and what we have shown throughout this tournament - some tough games and tough environments that we have overcome. Some memories that will stay with us players and I’m sure you fans for a long long time! Going for glory doesn’t always mean you will get it. You have to fight for it, get knocked down, pick yourself up and go again and that’s what we will do, there’s no other way but to keep believing and keeping pushing. Thank you to every single fan that travelled and showed their support in the stadiums. Thank you to every fan back home for believing in us. Thank you to the boys and staff for everything you have given. As always Win or lose, we learn and go again! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🦁

In 2005 there was a UK TV show called NATHAN BARLEY Critics hated it, viewers hated it. 20 years later, people finally realize how brilliant it was in foreseeing just how stupid our culture would become. Pitch black dark, extremely funny. Highly recommend!

Ian Curtis would have celebrated his 70th birthday today, 15 July 2026. This photograph taken by Mark Reeder is part of the ‘Ian Curtis: Insight’ exhibition on show in New York at the Voltz Clarke Gallery, until July 22. Ian’s notebooks, letters and ephemera are also on view.

Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dave Kendall. Dave was one of the true believers. Long before alternative music found its way into the mainstream, he was there every week on 120 Minutes, introducing people to bands that would go on to define an era. He didn’t just host a show. He gave a home to music that deserved to be heard. He loved the music, respected the artists, and connected with fans in a way that always felt authentic. That’s a rare gift. Sending love to everyone whose life he touched. Rest easy, Dave.

@AlysssaHazel @A_DungeonDelver Famously filmed in Santa Cruz, across the bay from us. A lot of the film sites were real (I've been to that comic book store MANY times! Different location now though). And the background actors were real life Santa Crucians. That movie is still a deep part of Santa Cruz culture.

@Bruwulf @J0hnADouglas @AlysssaHazel As much as I dislike Villeneuve's version, at least it SOMEWHAT has the Jamis scene. What's missing is Jessica's shocking line to Paul afterward: "How does it feel to be a KILLER?" And also missing: Paul automatically getting a new wife and two new kids...

@J0hnADouglas @AlysssaHazel Sadly almost none of them have the Jamis scene. It was filmed, and you can find it in a few obscure TV edits, but none of the commercial film versions have it. It's a shame. It's an important scene.

@YoDanno The '94 and '13 by Doubleday have the least attractive/informative covers imaginable. The '72 Baen, '75 Sphere, and '85 Ace are the best, in my opinion. And yes, Baen books dominated my bookshelf forever. Even just their own branding and layouts were so good for so long.

Before there was Sir Galahad in your campaign… Before Detect Evil. Before the Holy Avenger. Before laying on hands. There was Holger Carlsen. Poul Anderson’s Three Hearts and Three Lions helped inspire the AD&D Paladin, and these covers are a wonderful reminder that one great story can inspire generations of fantasy artists. Which cover would you have grabbed off the bookstore shelf?

@J0hnADouglas Dude! Almost twins! If we're keeping that third as Crichton then I'd go Eaters of the Dead. Otherwise, Neuromancer. The other two are a perfect match for me though.

@JohnTheMon2 @nerd_cookies I like this theory a lot. No chance in hell a fourth-wave Feminist like DV would include a storyline where Chani dies in childbirth. It's too overtly "misogynistic" and "patriarchic." Movie-Chani is entirely different than book-Chani, so your theory makes sense to me.

@nerd_cookies I think they’ll totally cut the irulan contraceptive story. And they’ll instead she’ll have the twins early on. They’ll later have a split, and she’ll run away with them. Then the ending will be scytale finds them, and possibly kills chani.

This one shot reveals so much about the film. Given Paul's baldness and the fact that he's picking up the scarf from the sand after she ditches it, it's probably safe to assume this is in the present Messiah timeline. Villeneuve is a highly visual and symbolic director, so Chani letting go of the scarf feels like a clear sign of her detachment from Paul. Even though they seem to reconcile after the events of Dune: Part Two, this suggests they eventually break up again. There's just no way Villeneuve has her casually letting the scarf go and it means nothing. He's made a point to explicitly tell us how this scarf is representative of their relationship. It also doesn't look like a vision, since we're seeing it through surveillance equipment. The twins are still very young here, which makes me think the scenes with Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke are either visions or part of a time jump near the end of the film. We know Nakoa-Wolf filmed scenes with Zendaya, so who knows? Maybe those are visions... or maybe Chani doesn't die after all.
