Personally, I’m not sure that’s quite right. Many of us (me included) would have absolutely settled for just some of what Starmer promised in his leadership campaign. I get that perhaps not all of it could be delivered - but to abandon the entire package and also the spirit of it was a red line. There were quite a lot of open minded people, like Owen Jones who wanted to give Starmer a chance and got demonised by the far left for it at the time. But Starmer has commonly betrayed our good will. So that probably does mean that even the good stuff he does doesn’t really get any credit with us anymore.

I think it’s because she was chosen to be visibility mean and harsh just like when the Tories picked Asian Home Secretaries. That’s not necessary to be mean about it all. Yes, many of them have got to go - but we can do it quietly and compassionately without a fan far, like Biden did. The left wouldn’t care as much if the numbers just quietly went down without all the pointless rhetoric and mean spiritedness.

@UnionJacked__ I think Shabana Mahmood’s time as Home Secretary shows that if the left tries to take a hard stance or atleast hard rhetoric on immigration then their voters criticise it and go vote for a protest party, there’s no winning on social issues for left wing parties
