My speech in today’s debate focussed on the importance of precise language for equality to be protected. “One thing I hoped all sides would agree on, is that equality is a principle we should all embrace, cherish and protect. Our understanding of what that means and how it is achieved is the nub of this debate as is our willingness or otherwise to accommodate each other. “I want to consider that foundation first. The notion of equality and its role in law is not new. Going back millennia Aristotle argued that, “equals should be treated equally and unequals treated unequally”. “This enduring principle of equality requires that individuals should be treated the same, unless, of course they differ in ways that are relevant for consideration to maximise equality before the law. Understanding how we differ requires a shared and clear language to delineate and apply those considerations… …if equalities legislation is to protect anyone, it must be able to effectively describe everyone.”

Pronouns aren’t preferred. They’re required. Using someone’s correct pronouns is a simple act of kindness that can make a huge difference. Pronouns are a crucial part of someone’s identity, and no one should have to explain why their pronouns matter & should be respected! 🌈🌎

weird, my 3yo understands that her friend’s moms are both his moms, and that her uncle J’s spouse is neither a boy nor a girl, and she uses they/them pronouns for them. maybe you just didn’t raise them right?

Women and girls (and your families, friends, supporters, etc): it's ok to be disgusted and infuriated by this. You don't have to accept males stealing your sporting experiences and results and then trying to gaslight you afterwards. #SaveWomensSports

@8252Hazel I cried at the end of ET when I was 7...I also went to see West Side Story at the theatre about 10yrs ago with a friend's family and they were horrified to see the tears as I left the theatre...they kept asking me if I enjoyed it...of course I had loved it! 😭😂

Watching the end of Titanic, started it last night but too late for Steph. I now have an extremely distraught child. Bawling her little eyes out, bless her! She will insist that she wants to watch these things.

@8252Hazel Bless her. There was definitely room for Leo on that door mind lol. I remember my sister taking me to see it when it was originally released at the old Odeon in Boro when I was 13, people were literally wailing loudly at the end, I'd never known anything like it
