@EricHippler @flatland_sports Who cares about 4 loss teams playing each other to see whether they lose their 5th in the first round or next one? Indiana is because of portal/NIL, not an expanded playoff. As an undefeated B10 champs Indiana would have been in the title game under the BCS system too

@86rjt @flatland_sports The 4-loss teams are gonna get a first round matchup against each other or a G5 champ. Those will be very winnable games. And we are watching talent actively spread out due to NIL already. The difference between team 1 and 32 in talent has shrunk objectively. Indiana proved it.

This is a misconception. It was like that for maybe 5 teams a season and for the rest of the league, non of the season mattered from a National Championship standpoint.
Coach Smith@AVCoachSmith

@flatland_sports Regular season used to the be the postseason. Lose and you’re done. Now it’s just more ad money for ESPN while you get a watered down product.

@Ripamaru @PDawg206 He isn’t, though. Kentucky started the season 0-0 just like everyone else. You think the failure of those teams to earn their way was a reflection on the system, rather than the teams — why not reward excellence instead of just letting the 6th-best SEC team go 8-4 and make it?

That's not remotely how it worked. The old format put TCU in the national title game, 12 years removed from G5 status and nowhere near the 2nd best team in college football. You aren't going to see anything remotely close to that ever again.
The Ripamaru ⭐⭐@Ripamaru

@PDawg206 The old model absolutely sucked for everyone except the handful of blue bloods. Vast majority of fan bases were permanently locked out from ever playing a meaningful game.

@EricHippler @flatland_sports Shitty for the cfb product “The teams that get to play that game disagree” — play for what? To lose a 4th game in a playoff they have no chance of winning? Thrilling

@86rjt @flatland_sports Final thing before I leave you to doomsday everything bc a social media influencer told you to be mad: I didnt say it clearly meant something bc Michigan planted the flag. I said Ohio State's response, players running to go fight instead of not caring. Read better.

People keep citing this incredible moment from the Iron Bowl as becoming meaningless if there is a 24 team playoff. Completely glossing over the fact that this game, by the same standard, would have supposedly meant nothing to Auburn who had no shot at a national championship that year.
Preston Guy@PGuy77

In a 24-team playoff, both these teams are comfortably in, with a bye. This game means nothing. In 2013, it’s widely regarded as one of the most dramatic football games of all time.

@86rjt @flatland_sports I think you may be missing the point. Sure, bragging rights will always be on the line in rivalry games. The fact this game had national championship implications amplified the atmosphere and hype. That will be no more. Bama likely doesn’t even try to kick that FG.

@TheMayeflowers @flatland_sports Fans aren’t making the call of whether to risk a QB in a game with no playoff implications. In the NFL, which is what CFB seems to want to become, starters sit in last game every year The moment that QB goes down and they’re bounced in the playoff, think fans will approve?

Hello World@TheMayeflowers·
@86rjt @flatland_sports It's because the rivalry matters to the ppl invested in the rivalry. A fan who roots for neither Michigan nor Ohio State ofc doesnt give a shit about OSU/UM in Jan. The take is that the environments of the rivalry games will be less exhiliarating. Which is simply untrue.

@TheMayeflowers @flatland_sports Read carefully: in a 24 team playoff no coach is going to risk his QB or critical players for one game in which the worst outcome is being a 6 seed vs 3 seed Reason people have been calling for rivalry games to move is because of this scenario. It will happen.

@86rjt @flatland_sports If the rivalry game doesnt matter, no coach is playing his starters 2nd half You all lose on this very simple absolute fact There is nothing. Nothing at all you can ever dispute from your position on this. The coaches are showing you how much it matters.

@TheMayeflowers @flatland_sports jfc the example you’re giving refutes your whole point. Ryan Day was off the hot seat 8 weeks later. That game meant nothing in the end. It was the perfect example of lowered stakes with the expanded playoff

@86rjt @flatland_sports Funny part of the whole 'it doesnt matter & I'll only attempt to dispute 1 of the reasons you pose for it still mattering' is there is an obvious tell and youll never admit it Regardless of you ignoring the deep hatred, the hot seat from 1 game, & recruits: starters all played.

@TheMayeflowers @flatland_sports Harbaugh was talking a couple years ago about moving OSU-Michigan to earlier in the season for the precise reason there will be scenarios which injury risks, etc. in last game of season outweigh being a 2 seed or 4 Think anyone at Ohio State cared in January 2025 about “pride”?

@86rjt @flatland_sports If it doesnt mean anything to ***you***, that means it never actually meant anything to you. You were just there for the vibes. A rivalry is deep, idgaf if both FSU and UF are #1 and #2. Both teams are going out there to embarrass each other. State pride, recruits, hatred.

@TheMayeflowers @flatland_sports OSU: lose 2nd game of season (any other year in CFB history eliminates them from natl title). But get home playoff game, a mulligan vs Oregon (their other L rendered meaningless) and then in national title game as if Michigan game never happened You: But Michigan planted a flag

Hello World
Hello World@TheMayeflowers·
@86rjt @flatland_sports So you're saying Auburn would not have tried as hard to win because getting to the higher seed would be meaningless? Michigan literally planted a flag after beating OSU and a brawl ensued in a 'meaningless' game in 2024. But yes, rivalry games no longer matter.

@TheMayeflowers @flatland_sports Regardless of outcome 2013 Auburn and Alabama would have been top 8, so yes, in a 24 team playoff that game is effectively meaningless Michigan had a huge upset vs OSU in 2024 only for OSU to get a home playoff game and win the national title. bUt duH fLAg pLAnT

@MattHayesCFB Yeah these theoretical matchups from last season would have been horrible… If #9 Bama and #24 JMU were the first game of the season, it would be hyped as one of the main games of opening weekend.

Knowles is such a shameless grifter. Mehdi asks a very simple question about whether it was a mistake to pardon child abusers and Nazis, and Knowles deflects by making some comment about the SPLC. Same guy defended convicted trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell getting the resort treatment from the Trump-Vance admin in jail. None of these people, least of all MAGA "Christians," have any principles. This is a stain that's never going to wash out of them.
