@SER1897 Naaaa. GOP is super easy. Just say the right buzzwords and appear on Fox and he's golden.

It's also important to note that Fetterman is very lazy. It takes a lot of work -- more so than just appearing on Fox News every day -- to raise money, get endorsements, and he'd have to start from scratch with the GOP.
🌼🌹Raquel🌹🌼@eternallyRaq

I’ve seen people try to say that Fetterman’s popularity with republicans will help him. But he had to win Pennsylvania democrats over first. If democrats hate him and republicans won’t actually vote for him in a general election, then he’s finished.

@MarkNorberg2 @kdaw196158 @JustinInBmore You are correct about the existing party being right wing and I hate all of that. Those existing levers you speak of are weaker than the ones blocking 3rd party access btw. One of the 2 must be broken. Id be thrilled if your idea won out. We want the same things.

The point of this tweet is not that progressive prosecutors are responsible for the precipitous drop in murders in Philly and NYC since 2022. The point, rather, is that we have no clear idea why the murder rate has fallen off a cliff, and explanations that point to "tougher prosecutors" can't explain what's happened in much of the country.

@MarkNorberg2 @kdaw196158 @JustinInBmore If you believe there are enough people of conscience to replace the party with a better one there are logically also enough people to take over the existing party. I'm saying it's an easier sell than a 3rd party is. Doesn't matter if you think the belief is untrue. Most do not.

@Ripamaru @tonyannett I'm guess I'm unclear on how taxes that are easy to avoid slow down top-end wealth growth. Pushing the wealthy into inefficient investments?

@ljmontello This is the natural behavior of people who believe they (and only they) are ideologically correct.

What is it about every wsws person that makes them so insufferably smug while contributing absolutely nothing to any conversation they drop into than proclaiming how much smarter they are than everyone else.

@ljmontello Correct. And it’s important to understand that calls for #M4A, while better than the center-right ACA, are a dead-end. As long as the capitalist class remains in place, it will never allow such an incursion into its wealth and profits. Only socialism can get us universal HC.

@amandalitman Most of them just want to feel like someone is actually gonna fight for their interests and correctly intuit that most politicians are there fighting for an entirely different set of people.

Just fwiw, since this started with a screenshot of me (ahem), I have never *ever* said the latter!

@mattyglesias Obviously, "voters do not have coherent ideologies" is correct, also obviously, "therefore they must implicitly agree with my lib/progressive positions endorsed by Ivy League graduate students" is incorrect.

@MarkNorberg2 @kdaw196158 @JustinInBmore You think it's impossible to convince people to vote out corporate Democrats (reform the party) but somehow possible to convince them 3rd parties aren't wasting their votes. A very odd set of beliefs.

@ThreeHatsInARow @tonyannett Sure. It was never blocking wealth. It just slowed down extreme inequality. The other half of that was much better wages and benefits for the working class.

@MarkNorberg2 @kdaw196158 @JustinInBmore You know the answer. Everyone knows the system is designed to prevent them taking hold. Convincing people to change their minds on that is harder than convincing them to only vote for Dems who don't take money from the donor class.

@tonyannett I doubt anyone back then ever used that word. All rich people employed tax accountants and lawyers to evade taxes. It worked. And, JFK started reducing high marginal rates.

@katewillett The system is designed to prevent it being fixed. Fixing policing would require a mass purge of officers, admistrators, etc.
