As much as I hate this administration and everything it stands for, this part is correct. We can’t get left behind, we can’t hold science and technology hostage because of lawsuits and goofy goobers claiming “theft” of art and writing and whatever else.

I think we have different understandings or opinions of what to create is definition. That’s ultimately what it comes down to. I enjoy creating video and the like, but I feel barriers to entry should be taken away as much as possible. The easier it is the more people can do it. The better. So you don’t need that full film crew, expensive cameras etc to make what you wanna make. I think that’s a net good. Look at digital video cameras, phones and YouTube. We opened it up it created a giant ecosystem of people making cool content they enjoy. With art, you still are creating it. We disagree on this it seems. Crap prompt crap result. Detail is key, reference images, styles etc are key. You need to know what you want for the best output. By the way when the red digital cinema camera came out in 07, there was this discussion of barrier to entry. And some thought it was bad anyone could rent and some buy a digital camera that good. 25k for something that was used in James Cameron’s first avatar is insane. Not half a million and up. Some said You need experience with film and all this knowledge to know what it is to make films. Nah you just need the right tools. The more accessible those are the better. I sold my red camera a while ago when I realized these tools will replace it and then some in the coming years. No one should have to have all that to make films. It doesn’t ruin anything by making it more accessible. That’s basically ai art. It’s become more accessible and it will improve a ton over time. In the tools and ways you interface with it as well as the quality. Photoshop is already a tool in ChatGPT. Photoshop has generative fill. And all these ai tools in it now. Like the rotating one can’t remember what it’s called. If you rotate your drawing to a different angle using ai, are you not the artist? You didn’t redraw it, you used a tool to adjust it. Like with color correction. You didn’t retake the photo. Same idea. It’s just making it easier.

@8BitKingGaming Machine. The result of the art comes from something else than you. You have the imagination and the idea, but said result comes from a script from top to bottom.

Gotta say, hijacking one artists post and image to advertise another artist is odd. If I took any fan art or art, and reposted it with the caption “I prefer this artist”, that would be weird right? Maybe I’m missing something, I don’t know.

Who said I’m taking someone else’s art. Are you taking a cameras video by recording a scene you set up, light and do set design for? Are you not the director or the author of the video, the camera is, because it “generated” it. That’s a video generated by a machine. Same with photo. You’re the “client” that told it what to do. This is no different. It’s made by the person and their words. It’s their design. Illustrator is no different by the way either. You’re not actually drawing lines or shapes by definition. What you draw in illustrator has no value outside of the machines we view it on. You’re not actually drawing, you’re making vectors which is basically just math that means really nothing without a machine to generate it in real time on displays. Or a machine to read it and print it. Same with bitmap. Tools and technology progress to make things easier ultimately. If more people can make art that they genuinely like with ai, and it gets them into art, what’s the problem and why are we gatekeeping? Gimp was free and got a lot of people into art, who couldn’t afford adobe when it was 800 for photoshop alone. Ai is no different. Not everyone has time to take a photoshop class, or learn about how to make art. Some just wanna see their visions come to life regardless of how. I spent so many hundreds of hours back in the day working on vfx shots in after effects learning everything I could about ambient occlusion, bevels, subdivision, and all this different stuff, blender, 3ds max, maya etc. if I can do the same thing with text, why wouldn’t I? If you enjoy it that’s cool but nothing wrong with wanting the end result easier. That’s why these discussions are so silly, and gatekeepy. You take someone who may not have any background in art, but wants to enjoy it, they make an art they genuinely like, and share it online. And they get attacked by a bunch of people for how they made it. There’s nothing more elitist and anti art than that. I see it happen all the time. Is that helping or hurting art as we know it?

That’s awesome! Pokémon go players building the future. Also “unknowingly” is not true. Some players might not know. But they say it pretty loud and clear in the game.

@os_xiv This is an old way of thinking. I understand where you’re coming from. But Practically everything we do digitally these days is an easier way of doing things. Being an artist on something doesn’t require you do it all the hardest ways. That’s what tools are for.

@8BitKingGaming art for you and then modifying stuff. You just change a few stuff off of the actual base that you. did. not. make. So prompting isn't anything you make out of your own effort. It literally isn't.

I take the outputs and put them together in photoshop. Premiere/After Effects for video. AI's just a tool. Even if you only do prompting, "your own efforts" is the prompt. And therefore the output. Entire applications can be built from prompting now, without writing a single line of code. "Effort" is irrelevant. The finished product is now what counts not how you get there.

@os_xiv Me personally, I get ChatGPT(or sometimes I use nano banana or others or api based for video like sora), to render with alpha/transparency channel, so basically components. Blend, resize, color correct etc, to make what I want. Its never prompt, download, done(for me anyway).

Stop discouraging AI use. Yes art, yes writing, yes everything ethical. Everytime you go off on someone online over ethical use of ai, you reduce the chances that that person and those reading will do something amazing with it. Like this. Encourage use of ai instead.
